Week 40 of 2009 Super Support Thread
yeap, I just checked it out too. 3.9% for only 2010 hardtops though. Clubman, convertible have 6.04%. interesting...
Financing rates fro 2010's...
That's kind of strange. From 3.9 to 6? I'll definitely be going in with 3.9 in hand from the credit union. See if they'll match or do better. If not, at least it's equal to what they're offering hardtop buyers.
Hard to figure these people out sometimes...

So... what are the accomodations like on the Don Carlos?
I found a YouTube video called "Coffee break on large car carrier" Be sure to have your sound on..>music music<
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zuq8CbU1v2s
Not only is this the kind of auto transport our cars are on...it may, in fact, actually be the Don Carlos! After watching the video, read some of the comments. Someone called 'Varjag' suggests that this is taken aboard a W&W carrier and is either the Don Carlos or the Mignon!
BTW...If you were wondering how cars become damaged during transport...notice how fast this person is driving and how easy it would be to clip something on the way up.<img>

The Don Carlos has done something unusual...
I just checked the Don Carlos position http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shi...html?call=sicn
on Sailwx.info and found something very unusual. Normal, the vessel track is expressed as red dots on the blue ocean background. Today, the track is a red dot but the background is yellow. Yellow is land! I paged down to read the data and found that todays nav fix isN 43°30'W 097°18' Yesterday it was
N 43°42W 037°18' (These were cut and pasted). According to this data, the Don Carlos had a run of 2607 miles at an average speed of 434.5 knots! Amazing!
Even more amazing is that the Don Carlos is apparently somewhere in South Dakota!
I guess they're taking the direct route to Port Hueneme.

And the ever-elusive Sierra Nevada Highway has just reappeared on the tracking sites as it makes its way up toward Baltimore!
The Port of Charleston has updated their schedule and now the SNH is scheduled to reach Charleston a day earlier on the 21st.

This is a cut & paste to show I am not making this up.

They're apparently taking a little "short-cut".
I looks like the radio operator typed one number incorrectly when sending today's data. The latitude is probably W 047°18' not W097°18'.

Manon & Finance
Hey,
Thanks for the update on the Manon. I will be one of the roll offs at NY. Won't be long.
I just got a call from my MA about current interest rates in PA. He told me that they just received the rate through Mini at 3.9%. He said the rate is good through 11/2/09. He also said it should be extended. "Can't see the point of an offer for only 2 weeks". I hope and should be able to take delivery before 11/2.
So close I can smell it.

Where is Turandot?
Not sure really where Turandot is. In an earlier post I mentioned that it was scheduled to pass through the Panama Canal today, but now that I look at the schedule for ships at the Canal
http://boydsteamship.com/booking.php
They no longer show October's transits, they've gone back to earlier schedules that are all in dates past. Annoying, but I did see it there before and despite my typos, it was scheduled today.
If I look on the WW tracking site, the Ports of Call where the ship has already sailed (Southampton for instance) are shown in Red. Manzanillo, Panama IS NOT shown red, so the ship still hasn't sailed through there.
Maybe worth checking WW again tomorrow to see if it has sailed, as www.sailwx.info and www.marinetraffic.com/ais are of no help.

So here's a random question:
We know how the cars get from the Oxford facility to Southampton. How do the cars get from the US ports to the VDC? For instance, the Greer, SC VDC is way on the other side of the state from the Charleston port. Train? Seems there'd be a lot of cars to move to the VDCs via car hauler.
I didn't see info in the tracking thread, so I'm just curious.
Answering my own question, here's an article about BMW exports from SC. Looks like the exports go to the terminal by train, so I expect that the imports come back the other way via the same trains.

Search by name and then click on the Lat/Long link.
The Manon was off the coast of New England but probably off NY by now. She's scheduled to arrive in NY tomorrow. If you look closely, you'll see the Don Carlos approaching as well to the EastSouthEast of the Manon (Manon posit is from 1800 19OCT09. But Don Carlos is from 0600 21OCT09.

Info on the Turandot!
It looks like the Turandot arrived at the Panama Canal at 6:00am this morning (or was scheduled to):

It's not much, but it's better than nothing!

Great find El Cid! I was beginning to worry our cars were lost at sea!
