newbie intro

Hi, I just bought an '07 MINI Cooper S, used with 20K miles on it. It will be my daughter's car in 2 years when she goes away to college and she'll be driving it to High School school fairly soon (spoiling her rotten or what). She's an only child, what can I say? Other cars in the family are a 2003 MR2 Spyder which I've modified the heck out of (including 2ZZ-GE engine swap) and driven on the Tail of the Dragon several times and an '08 Prius that the wife drives and daughter learned to drive in.

I'm just here for basic info at this point - what to watch out for, which things tend to be problems/issues, etc. I thought I did enough research on this car before buying, but in retrospect I did not do enough, since I'm here in search of more info. The car is used, but seems to be perfect inside and out with not a mark on it anywhere. I'm thinking about taking it to the Dragon this Fall "because I can". I've liked the MINIs from the very beginning (even before, since I'm old enough (51) to remember the originals) and they were always on my short list of cars to buy, either to replace my Spyder someday or "add to the stable", as they say.

Location: Jacksonville, Florida.
Occupation: Sr. Systems Engineer

Oh, and I'm a tuning software whiz. I developed a program that auto tunes Apexi Power FC standalones and does many other things. It works with many different Power FC models. No, I will not be modifying this car, certainly not playing with engine management. The most I'll do is probably add some custom roof graphic. I am "poor" now.

Welcome to the obsession from MAD-town, WI. The dark side of only children is that sharing can sometimes be challenging. I suggest that she work on that characteristic by "sharing" the MINI with you.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Would anyone care to recommend a brake dust shield product?

I changed the pads to Hawk Performance Ceramics, others like the Carbotech Bobcat pads. Both should reduce brake dust and improve braking.
