I need help identifying my 92 Mini Cabriolet
I have a 1992 Mini Cabriolet with the VIN Stamp XA2S1882328A. It is a red car with a red top and has the Lamm woodgrain interior. All signs seem to point to it being a Lamm Cabrio, but it is left hand drive. It has an RAC badge on the grill. Could you help me find out some more information about the car? I would appreciate any help you could offer.
I don't know what will help determine what it is, so ask any questions that will help and I will figure it out for you. I can post some pictures if that will help.

Post some pictures - of engine and interior. Close-ups would be helpful. Is it fuel injected? Single port or dual port? Get some engine close-ups - take the air cleaner off, look behind the driver's side engine mount for another VIN number to be sure.......interior and boot pictures up close would help.
This website http://www.roverminicabriolet.net/home.htm might be of help. ALso, contacting that website's owner might be very helpful in your quest for proper ID of your cabrio.

Thanks for the post. The website was very helpful. Everything (except the left hand drive) continues to point toward it being a Lamm. It is the same Cherry Red color and it has the plastic side windows that are part of the top, as opposed to the roll-down windows of the Rover.
I'll post some pictures later this evening when I get home.

I need help identifying my 92
Hi,
It looks to me like it is a LAMM Cabriolet. The colour is correct as is the hood. Even the square speaker boxes look right. Have you got AC fitted? The heater looks different to the UK version - we have very little need for AC in the UK but need a damn good heater, particularly at the moment...
The number plate is incorrect for the year as an L plate is 93/94 but I expect that is just for show? LAMMs in the UK are usually J or K reg. I checked out the plate and it looks like it was off a 1994 Blue Rover (probably Mini) 1275CC first registered on 28/08/94. It's tax ran out 10/05/02. I'm sure there are some rules covering emmisions etc for importing a car from the UK to the US and that's why the years don't match up. Are you aware of these?
The alloys are non standard too but they look great!
I tried to identify the model from the VIN number but it didn't seem to follow the usual pattern of numbers and letters. For this age of car, the VIN plate should be like SAX-XN-N-A-Y-B-B-D-######. I don't think there are any VINs that relate specifically to LAMMs as I'm sure I read somewhere that they were just standard Minis off the production line at Longbridge that were shipped over to LAMM in Germany for conversion.
The engine for the LAMM is a carburettor rather than fuel injected so the engine is of the correct period too although it looks like you've had some modifications done and some extras added.
I haven't seen anly LHD versions before and I don't know if the original 75 were intended soley for the UK market. I think it's fairly straight forward to convert a RHD to a LHD as the Mini shell is pre-drilled with wiper holes and holes for the pedals for both markets.
There is currently a LAMM for sale on ebay...
Did you see the scans of the LAMM buyers guide on my website, that should give you lots more information.
Hope I've been of help?
Stephen
