Greetings from Spartan in Alaska!
Hello! Although this is my first post I've been lurking for a while. NAM helped me get through my waiting period - I've been able to answer many questions with the information here.
Our MINI: "SPARTY" - '08 MCS, BRG/W, white Crown spoke wheels
We ordered SPARTY on Friday the 13th in June. He showed up at the Anchorage port on Wednesday, August 19th. We (myself, my partner, and our English Mastiff) have only had one car (currently a Chrysler MINI van) for nearly 20 years! You can imagine how luxurious it seems to have not only a second car but a pleasurable one at that. Zach (our Mastiff) can't do much more than stick his head in but he seems to approve. He has his own MINI van anyway.
SPARTY's name and colors come from our alma mater - Michigan State University - where my partner and I met many MOOns ago and a place that is dear to our hearts.
SPARTY resides in Anchorage, Alaska because we chose to leave jobless Michigan quite a while ago looking for real careers. If you live in and like Alaska it can be very difficult to leave - it's one of the greatest places in the USA and many other locations.
So far I've only been able to put in Weathertech floormats, ALTA stubby antennae, and GoMiniGo glovebox tidy - I need to get the garage cleared out of short-Alaska-summer junk.
I will be modding SPARTY with ALTA CAI & catback, Hella horns & driving lights (with Outmotoring brackets), GoMiniGo gen 2 brake light pulsar, Cravenspeed STDs, MSU emblems, custom MSU license plate frames, white O.Z. winter wheels & tires w/ RAD locking lug bolts, OEM mudflaps, some sorta Aesthetic Creations airbag stickers, and custom Alaska SPARTY vanity plates.
I may continue with white stripes, minor white details, custom Whalen ****, Cravenspeed shift well cover, clear bra, and a big list of other doo-dads. Time and $$ being the constraining factors.
This is the first car in over 20 years that I've been interested in working on and playing with since owning a '74 Jeep CJ5 w/ 304 V8, Holley 4 barrell carb, and burned out glasspacks creating nearly straight pipes. Talk about LOUD! I think it got 5 or 6 mpg with its 3 speed (not on the tree, thank goodness).
OK...that was long winded. Thanks for reading and I look forward to future communication.

Seems like I can't escape hearing of Alaska these days...

Sorry..had to throw in something about Alaska!
Thanks All!
Ummm...yeah...I have no comment on that one...
You know, it's a good thing cars can be delivered by boat. Makes it a bunch easier, especially if you're on an island.

Congrats on the new coop... I've recently bought a used one also, but where do you get yours serviced at? Does the BMW dealer here service them?

So far, I've been doing all the routine maintenance on mine. I was a mechanic in a former career, so not so big of a deal for me.
When I asked the BMW dealership in Anchorage regarding routine maintenance/warranty work, they told me that they only work on MINIs they sold themselves.
There are a few MINI-friendly independent shops in the Anchorage area though. I could ask a friend of mine up there for more specific information if you'd like...

Go Green! Go White! Go, State, Go!
MSU Alumni here, too. We are down here in Nor Cal. Still waiting for an 09 CR/W MCS. Weather is a little nicer here, I guess. But I'm sure the view up in Alaska is Majestic.
Happy Motoring!

YAY ALASKA AIRLINES.....
Oh wait, you mean the state!
I didn't know you could order a new Mini from the local BMW shop... and to think I was going to go to Seattle to buy one. I stopped a Mini driver on the street a bit ago and asked where they got there's serviced and he told me Accurate Import Center was a good spot for Mini's, but if you have some other locations I wouldn't mind some alternate's to shop around if I needed to.

I'll talk to my friend in Anchorage...and I'll get back to you about other repair shops...
Sorry, I should have clarified. The BMW dealership in Anchorage only services and performs warranty work on the USED MINIs that they have sold. They do not sell new MINIs at all, as they are not a MINI franchise.

Thanks!
Lookabkl,
I took my 2002 MC to http://www.accurateimport.com
I talked to a few Mini owners that I stopped to talk with in town and they all seem to be using AJ there to do the coopers. I don't know about warranty work, but I'd give them a call and see if they can handle that for you.
I hope Mini puts a store up here soon...
