In the military, we have a saying when lining up....nut to butt....I am sure there is no wasted space. I wonder if they are chained down? That would add alot of time to the loading/unloading process. Might be some interesting research to do while we WAIT.

I've taken a few car ferries across the Baltic sea, the English Channel, and around the Atlantic coast, and the cars were never strapped down. I know this is different from a large RoRo car carrier, but I think there is little chance of damage.

Besides, our MINIs should be free to roam and make friends, as long as they don't cause any trouble.

Has anyone heard from their MA that they have joined the Southern Highway crew?

Also... has anyone been able to track our ship, even on a delayed basis? I would be curious where we may be by this time... maybe rounding Greenland and Northern Canada?

I have been trying to track the ship, but unless I discover something, I have concluded that unless the ship is within range of port, it cannot be tracked. On the vesseltracker.com site, you will see the message "The current position is not available because the vessel is not in one of our covered regions at the moment." Once it is in range of port, it will show up in the AIS link posted above.

I was even having trouble tracking Southern Highway from Bremerhaven to Southampton, despite the fact that nearly all of the waterways in between are within the regions monitored.

It's not the wait that kills me (ok, it is...) but it is the not knowing that is the worse.

Ozzy's status was updated this morning indicating it was en route.

OL still shows me awaiting transport. For all the folks on Southern Highway has OL shifted to "En Route" for you?

Hey DMAC, have you tried ASK MINI? Their reps may not tell you what ship you're on, they can tell you if you've been released to the carrier.

I did call ASKMINI and they told me thay can't give out information that says released to carrier. All they can tell me is that I arrived at the port on July 18th. Guess I am not on the Southern Highway and will catch a ride on the Sierra Nevada Highway on August 1st......hmmm could be a good sign...I like Sierra Nevada Ale. Missing all my 29 bros and sisters.

Too bad DMAC, though I do agree about Sierra Nevada making a mean ale. Their barleywine is quite tasty as well. I hope you're not the last lonely week 29 MINI sitting on the docks...

I am also surprised that no one else has joined the group. I thought that by now some MAs would have emailed or called people to tell them they are on this K-line ship.

Maybe it is making a special trip to NYC just for OO and I.

Came across this site whilst search for a current location of Southern Highway. I was shocked at the number of vehicles this vessel holds! The link includes all K-Line vessels...

http://www.kline.co.jp/biz/car/fleet_e.htm

Name of Vessel Capacity (Cars) High Height Ratio
(%)
SOUTHERN HIGHWAY 3,900 100.0

Southern Highway

I finaly got confirmation yesterday, that my Mini is on board the Southern Highway, even though OL, and ASKMINI still say I'm awaiting transport.

My goodness...it is hard to imagine that those ships can carry 3900 cars.

Welcome aboard tennesseemini and DMAC! Now this is starting to turn into a real party cruise!
My MINI has gambled away all funds at the onboard casino, but has been enjoying the sun and beverage service.

I imagine we should be hitting the East coast some time soon.

Right ship???

Hi all

Originally, I thought that I was on the courage, but never got a tracking number through WW, changed to en route today...heading for charleston, and then to Cincinnati Mini. Awaiting final confirmation from my MA, but it looks like we are shipmates. I can handle the wait, since currently driving a 2005 mc, trading in for 2008 mccs.

Happy Sailing...soon to be happy motoring.

Hey-
I found out yesterday that my MC is on Southern Highway, Ghost Ship of the Atlantic!
I'm sure little Joshephine is sipping on bubbly and hanging out at the roulette wheel.
