Hi! I just called ASK MINI and they said I am in week 32 production, which would be the first week in August? I've seen other people saying it was the second week in August.

2008 MC BRG
16" alloy wheels, bridge spoke
black bonnet stripes, roof and mirror caps in black
multi-function steering wheel
premium package
sports leather steering wheel
grey-carbon black leatherette

Look on a calendar. Week 32 is the week starting August 3. That is the second week of August. The first week of August is not a full August week.

It's also beginning on the fourth if you have a calendar with Monday as the first day of the week. It is the first full week in August.

Who makes calendars in the US with Monday as the first day? Everything I have, printed or electronic, uses Sunday as the first day of the week.

First post here.

Ordered mine - 2008 MCS - Mellow Yellow; White roof/stripes. - on July 5th - was told it would be 60 - 70 days.

Week 32 - week of 4 August. Hope to have it in mid September, but has to come to West Coast then be trucked north.

Love the car; hate the waiting.

There are some. Mine is by Moleskine. Monday is more common as the first day of the week in Europe. I don't think the Brits will use our format.

I just got bumped up from "on order" to "scheduled for production". I called ASKMINI and the rep I spoke with told me that I was scheduled for week 32! She said that begins Aug. 4 and runs through the 9th. Don't have a VIN yet.

2008 MCS
Astro black
roof same color
Punch carbon leather
premium pkg
bluetooth/ipod
DSC
and more that I can't remember off the top of my head.

So excited.

The rep also said b/c I'm on the east coast I should expect a faster delivery time than west coasters.

I just spoke to ASKMINI, even though we are scheduled for production on week 32, he said status probably would not change in the OL until several days after the car has actually started production. Best to call ASKMINI for updates, when we get closer to the 3rd or 4th.

Sigh...just found out I'm in the Week 32 Club. I had hoped it would be sooner. No motoring for me during my vacation in August!

Oh well. I just can't wait to get my hands on it!

P.S. Is it bad luck to name your MINI before it's born?

I was wondering whether it's bad luck not to name the car at all. I've never named a car, and don't see the point if it doesn't come when I call.

wgrzanic:

We name our kids before they are born, so why not our cars? I sort of let my build specs determine the name. A triple pure silver, very understated, with just some sport stripes just sounded like a Phantom to me, so that's the name. Is your order pure silver, too? Looks like it from the pic, but you have a black top. That's a nice combination.

Nope -- I considered that, but went with dark silver instead. I do like the silver/black combination in general, though!

Just curious is any one as bothered as I am about paying full price for a 2008 when on paper it will be basically a year old by the time the car arrives. I know how MINI dealers are about reducing the price but I have looked around and the car depreciates by about 1000 a year on average. Since it will basically be a year old by the time it comes in shouldnt there be some kind of a discount?

In my limited experience, it's not just the model year, but the miles on the odometer that determine value. So, I would expect that a 2008 and a 2009 with the same miles will have approximately the same value. The 2008 is a year older, but also has low miles for its "age." And we know now that the 2008 and 2009 MC and MCS are basically the same car - no major changes for the 2009. I think there should be little difference in buying a 2008 vs a 2009 now.

If you plan to keep the car for less than 3 years... yes.. it should be a concern for you. Generally, by 4th or 5th year, most car has depreciated to max. Of course from that point, milage/condition of your car can determine few thousand dollar deviation.

Yes MINI hold their value very well.. above avg cars out in the market. Having said that, $250 difference of 08 and 09 ($500 DTC is standard on 09 so 750-500) doesnt seem a lot. $250 + local tax (x.x-8.5%) depending where you live) + longer waiting time = Is it worth it for you down the road to have 2009 titled car? Really depends how often you go through cars.

Look at it this way... Example = try finding 06 MCS. Prices are ALL over the place and it doesnt even follow Bluebook pricing guide. Big difference than 05 with same option and milage? Very hard to figure that out. Used car market is very unique in that there are NO CARS like the one you are trying to buy. You can put any price tag that is relative to general guideline price from various sources. Kelly Blue Book is a popular source... not always accurate...

my 2 cent..

Anyone here getting their car through Rasmussen Mini in Portland? I am so excited to get this car I have already picked out a bunch of little mods from outmotoring.com.

Has anyone ordered a stubby antenna, and if so where did you get it. 4" or the 2"

You're bumming me out, man. You do realize that everyone on this thread is a 32 Build Week, right? We all decided it didn't affect our decision-making process enough to not get a Week 32 MINI. God willing, I will be driving this 2008 MC in late August of... 2008! The fact that there aren't discounts on MINI's is a part of the reason they hold their value so much. There are people that are paying above MSRP.

Honda is having their end-of-08 clearance right now, and I gotta admit that it's tempting (being a Honda lover, myself). But this is not a Honda. This whole MINI thing defies logic.

This is obviously bothering you way too much to not get a 2009...

There are two routes to a 2009. Order a 2009 JCW now which you may get quicker than a 2009 MCS. Or just order the 2009 MCS at the first available chance and wait the extra time. I've been waiting almost two monts for my 2009 JCW to go into production. You have less than a week invested in the wait according to your order info. I expect to see my order in mid September, that will be a total of 15 weeks. I think Calmante is right, this is really bothering you and you should probably re-order and buy a 2009.

There will probably be no discounts and the wait times will increase.

Thanks for all of your help. Didn’t mean to bring anyone down, its just that my family is going way out of their way to buy me this car and it will be a graduation gift so I want to make sure that I am getting the best deal possible for the car I want. I have decided to wait it out and see what the dealer tells me when the car is here. I would really like them to reduce the price or at least throw in some free extras other than the usual floor mats if i settle for the 08 if not i will just reorder an 09. Called again today and I am scheduled for week 32 and they said it will arrive early September late august if I am lucky. Any one here have any previous experience ordering with Braman in Miami???

Enjoy the wait. I just read in another post that MINIs are sold out and what's coming in are preordered. The claim was dealers would have to start selling used ones. I don't think you'll get much of price break in that environment. You can always ask, but don't be surprised if the MA tells you there is someone else in line to buy your car. There apparently is. I just hope they can not legally change the price after they gave me a quote.

You know you may actually like the car you ordered and want to keep if forever, in which case, the year is irrelevant.

Since my hearing is going and my wife never wants the radio on, I skipped all the radio business. Figured what ever came standard was okay. But, just out of curiosity, what is the standard antenna?
