Congratulations! Ordering your MINI is a very exciting thing.
And nice color choice. I really think the lightning blue looks great with black.

Lucky dog! The Hill Country is a great place to drive! I'll be taking my car down there to Dripping Springs in April.

Thanks everyone for the supportive compliments! Be sure to come out to the Hill Country in the Spring for the wildflowers [yes, ESPECIALLY bluebonnets, the Texas state flower]. Yes, I will be ordering at the MINI Center which luckily for me [or them] is very close to the hospital where I work.

Nice. Quick question though: I thought Mini's didn't need an alarm because of it cannot be hot wired. What's the verdict on this? I didn't add one and am curious if I missed something. Thanks!

Good question! My husband ordered the alarm on mine - hope it wasn't wasted money!

Here's a quote by Mataku & Msteadman from another thread:
"Generally one of the most valuable features of an alarm system is its immobilizer [your key has a built in transmitter which needs to be in the vicinity of the car to start]. However since the MINI comes with that standard, all the factory/dealer installed alarm is good for is being a noise maker. As mataku said, if your MINI will be parked in a bad area then that alone can be of use. But generally a simple horn going off is nowhere near enough to stop a professional thief. It can help draw attention to your vehicle however, and also potentially thwart both petty thieves and 'smash n grab' attempts.

That said the OEM alarm system does have some pretty cool features if you do decide to opt for it. One thing which many appreciate is that it gives audio confirmation of when you lock/unlock your MINI. Without it you only get visual confirmation with the hazards flashing. Also it activates the 'heartbeat' light atop the tach which advertises that your vehicle is equipped with an alarm. Finally it gives much better peace of mind if you have a convertible and want to park with the top down as it has an interior motion sensor. Same for if you have a hardtop and often park with the windows down and/or sunroof open."

Watson Update!

Watson is now enroute to his port of exit [although Ryan at ASK MINI couldn't tell me which one] Looks like he'll arrive for my Dad's 90th birthday so I can give him a ride!

Called today & Watson is at port awaiting a ship assignment. Nothing on the WW site either.

Wish I could say something new & wonderful. Watson's been 'awaiting a shipping vessel assignment' since Wednesday and nothing as yet. I'm afraid I may not get out until the 15th...

If your not in the seat by the 17th, we'll swing by and pick you up for a joy ride on our way back from Arlington to San Antonio. She's already waiting there for us from what I understand, but we can't go up to meet her for another week. Like Tom Petty sings, "The waiting is hardest part."
