beta Mini (buying today)

Hello everyone.

I am having a rough time. I am longing for a Cooper S. I live in Colorado and have found a few used units. Here is a list of my needs and wants.

Need:
2006 +
Cooper S
6 speed

Want:
2007 +
limited slip (I think)
multifunction steering wheel
ipod integration
cruise control
bluetooth
sunroof

I found my NEED list in a 2006 for $20,000 w/ 25,000 miles

I found my WANT list in a 2007 for $25,500 w/8000 miles, less the limited slip & ipod thingamajig.

Now the WANT is 900 miles away and I have to sell my trade myself, CLUSTER.

The NEED is 30 miles away and they take the trade no CLUSTER. In other words I can have it today!

What would you do? I am leaning toward the local one, and get a rock to use for cruise control, a Dice set-up for the (iPod)iPhone. I have Bluetooth headset to talk ont he phone with. (kidding about the rock)

Any other solutions to my WANT list? adding Multifunction steering wheel? cutting hole int he roof for sunroof etc?

I am really having trouble with this decision.

Thanks,

If you can afford what you want, do it. In my experience, iinconvenience is temporary; regret is forever.

JohnJohn,

Not having cruise control would be a no go for me. I can't imagine not having it. Unless you plan to never ever drive on an interstate highway cruise control is a need rather than a want. Just my opinion, of course.

JohnJohn,
I was referring to the inconvenience of the car being 900mi distant. I thought that was your trade-off: close and need; far and want.

I've never had cruise control on a car that I owned. I don't use it, even when available. Never had a sunroof... HAD to have a sunroof. Get the car you really want (focus on the features that can't easily be changed). I agree with previous post..buyer's remorse is worse than some inconvenience. If you aren't sure, you probably should wait. You'll find one that has no question marks soon enough.

verdict

I bought the local one.

2006 MCS
25k
6speed
Sport Package
Silver/White lid, mirrors, and bonnet strips

I love this car. I only missed cruise control yesterday when the kids were in the back. I couldn't move the seat all the way back.

The kids sit in those "booster" seats. So there feet don't drop under the seat in front. He have a Honda Odyssey also so once the newness wears off the family will take that everywhere.

Going with a Dice iPod connector...and i can live without the sunroof.

Thanks for the advice, even though I didn't take it.

Congratulations!!!!! Post pics when you can.

Don't bet on your kids wanting to go back to riding in your Oddy. Both of my kids are in boosters, too, and they still say that they prefer my MINI over the '05 Oddy I had before. Squished feet and all.....

It appears that you got what you really wanted. Glad all the discussion helped you clarify things.

We are going to San Antonio in June... If I could only talk the bride into taking the Mini over the Odyssey. "It's only 900 somthin miles Honey" She's not giving in yet.

5-7am Sunday mornings sure a great time for some Motoring.

Here are some pictures I pulled off the dealer's site

He had a few more. They are posted here. The original owner put a large Mini Logo sticker in the back window, under the tint. So tomorrow I will be taking it down to pull the tint and get that sticker removed. A very large sticker is just not my taste. I'm sure others like that sorta thing. It also blocks the view out of the rear view mirror, a little confusing to the brain at night. I am kind a glad about having to remove the tint. I also don't like the mirrored/reflection type tint. I usually just go as dark as I can legally here in Colorado.

Let me know what you see. Maybe some info about something you see that I don't know about?

Already found out the vehicle was out of Nevada. Which explains the frozen tubes of water from the windshield washer reservoir to the hood. I just pulled it in the garage to defrost them. Then I'll fill the reservoirs with anti-freeze type washer fluid and run the wipers till I see blue fluid.

I say do a caravan
Also, I have the factory iPod integration and am not 100% satisfied. My artist list stops at the R's since it lists a maximum of 255 items.

Enjoy the ride

Congrats on your new mini. If you want to show it off and talk to a lot of other mini owners, there is a Clubman Launch party on 2/16 at Ralph Schomp Mini at noon. It is also a club event for one of the local mini clubs.

There are 2 mini clubs in the Denver area: mini5280.org and www.minisrock.com
I am sure there are others for other areas of the state, I just know the Denver ones.

Have fun motoring around. Today is a beautiful day in Colorado. Now if my mini would just get over here so I could drive it.

Thanks for thinking of me. I got the Clubman launch on my calendar. I posted in the mini5280 forum this morning. I will check out minisrock.com also.

My old friend Grant turned me on to Minis quite a few years ago. When I finally got around to buying one Grant said to check out NAM. I have searched for a ton of good info here.

Tell them to pull the Johnson sticker off the boot at the same time.

Congrats on your new MINI. I didn't give you any advice, but if I had you'd have bought the right car. 2006 FTW!

Happy motoring

Question:

95+ mph...3000+ rpm in 6th? sound right. Seems higher than anything else I have ever driven.

My engine spins 3,000 RPM at an indicated 70 MPH in 6th.

Thanks, I couldn't remember the exact numbers.

The last manual I had was a Wrangler and it stopped at 4th. I wanted to make sure I was actually getting it in to 5th and 6th. :D
