Going from On Order to Scheduled for Production

How long does it usually take for a car to go from "On Order" to "Scheduled for Production?" I ordered my MINI on 12/5. I called ASK MINI, and they said it wouldn't start production until 12/12.

I guess I'm week 50!

we ordered ours last saturday and it scheduled to be completed on sunday the 9th. Think it depends on your dealer and the allocation they have but I could be wrong. Took me 6 months to get our first MC and didnt go into production for the first 3 months.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm a first time car buyer, so this is a pretty exciting process for me.

I have to say, is there any sense of shock when you come across a MINI owner who didn't order theirs? Isn't that a part of the experience?

Yes, to me it was a big part of the experience. I'd been lurking on NAM for a while so I new the process pretty well. The dealer had a lot of cars on hand and was offering to discount their lot car quite a bit. Even with the discount, I would be paying extra for a lot of stuff I didn't need/want. I loved the order process (7 weeks to the day).

Good luck with your order.

I ordered mine at 1:00 on Friday 11/30. As of the next day it showed as in production with a production date of 12/6. Called this morning and they said it was in final quality check. It just amazes me. I have had a Corvette on order since 11/13 and it won't be built until next Friday 12/14.

Alsatia is also scheduled to be completed the 9th! I'd start the week 50 support thread but won't "jinx" things until I get confirmation that she was actually completed. Nice to meet you says the one mini to the other in the mini nursery

You'll never have this experience with any other car manufacturer (ok, maybe if you ordered a veyron). I've ordered cars in the past and you basically sit in the dark. I've even had the dealer sell _my_ car and try to tell me it was "delayed" which caused a 30 day delivery to become a 6 month delivery. The process is truly amazing and I'm glad to finally be part of it.

Sometimes the OL is a bit erroneous in what stage your car is in. Mine was at the dealer and the OL showed that it just had arrived at the PDC. Call the 866askmini number and they will tell you what is happening. Or check with your MA. He/She knows a lot about where your car is. (Those Super Secret Insider Mini Connections).

How long does it take? Week 46

We ordered ours on 11-7-07, production began 11-12-07, production finished 11-16-07, delivered to the VDC on 12-6-07 & at the Mini dealer on 12-11-07, picking it up really soon! Hope we ordered the right color. Could have ordered 3 weeks earlier but couldn't decide on the color. Got DS metallic with everything. njp
