Good for you! Have fun!
When I ordered my 2004 the build and wait was 1 year!
I ordered my 2004 when I retired from the Army in 2003 and went to Qatar for a year and when I returned to the USA it was at the dealer waiting for me. Since then it has been mods and builds and headaches...but most of all fun!
Welcome to the crazy MINI world!

Wow, I can't imagine waiting a year -- that had to be one exciting delivery day.
I'll have to take a night shot with all the lights lit up. 'Tis the season after all.
The wife and I started as the only MINI family in our neighborhood (she's got a 2010 Midnight Blue MC hard top with mean looking black wheels) and now I've seen one other hard top and a Countryman. I'm sure this time next year I'll be able to add even more families to the list.

Keep the Information and Photos Coming
The Meal,
Keep us informed on NAM about your experience with the new F56. After your purchase of the '07 R56, you stopped posting.
With 7 years of experience with the R56, you are well qualified to give opinions of the changes in the new MINI. Many of us out here are still forming our opinion of the new car by our feelings toward the design of the new front end and continually growing size. Let us know your evaluations on all the parameters. And, of course, we love photos, especially when you have the beautiful backdrops of Colorado.

Guilty as charged, GF. Though I did keep reading NAM in the intervening time (at least for the first few years).
The initial impression (450 miles in), is that the F56 as an aspiring luxury car. The interior is, in every way, an upgrade to the R56 (this is a very good thing). The fit and finish is better, the layout more intuitive (though due to my familiarity with the R56 I constantly found myself reaching for the wrong location for the start/stop button and sport/mid/green mode switch, and still go in the wrong direction when trying to adjust the windows), and the presentation much better for a passenger. Seats are off-the-charts more comfortable (oh how I look forward to this summer's cross-country trip back to Michigan!). The NAV XL isbeautiful. I've seen many rave about the H/K audio system, but I'd have to say if there's an improvement over the R56, my 41-year-old (former audiophile) ears don't quite pick up on it (though I'm mostly a satellite/MP3-over-BT listener now-a-days, so maybe I haven't given it a fair test).
It's bigger and it's noticible, but it's still smaller than any rental car you'd ever drive off the lot. The storage in the boot is much better laid out -- with the fold-down shelf you can legitimately put your slime kit, tool kit, jumper cables, ice/snow scraper/brush, paper towels, etc. in "their place" and still have very workable storage spaces for the grocery store or suitcases. (Not so in the R56 boot.)
Gone is my sport suspension. In is the variable damper suspension. This is a nice change for who had been 34 and is now 41. The car rides with more luxury (even more so now that I've got the winter 16" wheels in place) and less urgency over the bumps. I sort of buried the lede here, as this is probably the most noticeable (and most favorable) change between the two cars for the person sitting in the driver's seat. I'm not convinced the variable suspension (a $500 option) was worth the cost and additional complexity/moving-parts in the structure (honestly, if I didn't know it was there, I'd be very unlikely to notice a difference in ride in sport vs. mid/green). I'm interested to find out if there is any aftermarket folks willing to push its parameters.
I sadly left my R56 behind as the reliability of the N14 engine which gets much maligned here on NAM unfortunately matched my own experience. I was enthused about the new 2.0 l engine and the technology items which made their way into the cabin, but was not nearly as excited about receiving the new car compared to when I was getting my original MINI. "Curious" was a better adjective.
The reality, however, is that the F56 is a home run. I LOVE this car. As excited as I was to go from a '96 Jeep Wrangler daily driver to the 2007 MCS, I've taken a similarly-sized step forward with my new MINI. I know we all see lots of mixed opinions on NAM regarding the new car and I think it's possible that there is some legitimacy for some of the complainers. (Some prefer blondes, some prefer redheads as one friend puts it.)
Some of it, too, is that I'd spec'ed out my own MINI before. I didn't shell out ~$1200 on driving lights this time around. I did spend for the clearbra, tint, and custom bonnet stripe. I have a better sense for what *I* want in/from the car. I know some folks are good at that sort of thing right out of the shoot, but it took me a second swing to hone in on just what I wanted.
We'll see how well this feeling holds up. If it turns out the F56 is a reliability nightmare then my tune is going to sour very quickly. But for now this thing is 10 stars out of 10. The big stuff is fantastic and the little details are now *there*. You hold my toes to the fire, and my first complaints are probably that the gas tank is noticeably smaller and there isn't as much room in the hidden compartment/glove box.
I'm a fan.

Detailed Analysis
A quite complete report of your experiences. Thanks for taking the time.
Seems the MINI has become more BMW, more a road touring car. This may appeal to more people, but the folks that tend to lurk around NAM lean toward small and sporty handling.
Keep posting your impressions as you get more miles behind you.

Agreed.
Today I installed the Automatic link OBDII reader (and turned off all the "alert you to how you waste gas" features!) and installed the Cravenspeed mobile phone holder.
