Yes. And I've also heard if you have DVD nav, you can play MP3s off burnt DVDs.
Good point - you can get a lot of stuff on one DVD. Where did you read this? This is all I could find:

You can put a DVD with MP3s in this drive, but then you would not be about to use the Navigation because the Nav disc has to be in that drive to work. I've found that the CD holds about 150 MP3 tracks, and that's enough for me.
TheOfficeMaven just posted that it was possible in a thread I tried my best to spread lies in.
Thanks for that. So you do have to give up your nav to do this. I'm surprised that works - who would have thought the Nav DVD drive was accessible to the audio system?

Yes, it is indeed strange, but considering that the nav IS the audio system in nav equipped cars (i.e. there isn't a separate radio like in the 1st gen cars), it kind of makes sense.
My week 34 drop'd at the dealer yesterday, Ipod install today -- taking delivery TOMORROW!
Awesome! Congrats.
I got a call from my MA today saying car should be in town on Saturday, a day or two to install iPod, driving lights, and tint. So should be good to go on Wednesday. I'm getting real tired of waiting.... it wouldn't be so bad if everyone and their moms around here wasn't asking me where my MINI was.
Our west coast delivered week 34 is at the VDC/VPC right now (having the iPod adapter installed there too) with a scheduled delivery to the dealership of this Sunday (08/23). Hopefully it will come in today or Saturday instead (all our other MINIs showed up before their estimated delivery date and so I'm hopeful) and we'll have it by Sunday or Monday.
Well everybody......my Week 34 is FINALLY here. Went with my delivery checklist in hand though I admit, I wasn't very focused during my inspection! Best thing was that it had 1 lone mile on the odometer when I picked it up! Tony from Mini of Towson did a great job of going over everything and answering all my questions. The whole dealer experience was extremely painless, no pressure whatsoever. My Bluetooth & phone works easily and the Ipod install is a blast! Gonna try to figure out the NAV and voice commands today. I stopped at a friend's house on the way home and he took the attached pic with his cell phone to show his wife. More soon!
Hazmat -- do you think the ipod install is worth the money?? When I tried it on the demo unit, it seemed rather slow and clunky. How efficient is it to use, and how easy?

I actually do think its worth it especially if you get the nav. Was also the only thing I had some wiggle room with in my purchase "negotiation" besides the floor mats! I will say that it isn't the most intuitive device and I did make use of the instruction manual. Kinda ironic considering the iPod itself is all about being intuitive. It it does come off at first as being slow/clunky but u get used to it and once its has loaded all the directories you are good to go. I checked out Tharkun's link above and would agree that the seaching the library is difficult and that it really requires a good set of playlists. IF someone does know a way to scroll alphabetically through a very long list of of songs, artists etc, I'd love to know. Starting at A and working your way through isn't ideal. Would really be great if voice commands were available to advance through a list so you could just say "R" or whatever. Are they?
I think if the addition of the USB port next to the Aux does what people are saying it is supposed to, that might be a reason to skip it though if you wait, the new pricing on the in the 08 builds will make the iPod install seem like a bargain. AND, of course, being able to hide it in the little secret compartment is totally POSH.
Sigh.... apparantly while they were checking the car out for me to pick it up, a passenger airbag light came on, so they have to order something to fix it and it's gonna be 7-10 more days before I can pick up my car....
Hopefully this isn't gonna be the story of this car.

Sorry to hear the bad luck, try doing like another NAM memeber did. Talk to the Mini sales manager and request they rob the part needed from one of their sales models and make you a very happy customer.

Heh, I would do that, but I don't like the idea of making someone else's car no good for my own benefit... I'd hate if someone did that to me (which they probably did, which is why I'm in this pickle to begin with, haha).
But, hey, if MINI doesn't want my money, that's their problem. I haven't paid for the car yet. I'm really bummed about this, was all excited about picking it up this week
I believe he meant one of the dealer's unsold cars and not someone's personal car. No harm in having the dealer remove the working part from one of their "stock" cars in order to replace the defective one in your car. They can then put it back when the ordered part comes in. That's just good business in my book.
