TO SELL PRIVATELY OR TRADE?

Picking up my mini on Aug 1. Need to sell my 2005 Scion XA. No bites yet. Blue book price is about $13,500. Dealer said they would give me approx $8900. Would have to look at it first. Hmmm. From past experience dealer says a high price, and then it gets lowered significantly when it gets checked out. It is in good condition. No dings, but some scratches on rear bumper. Any thoughts or experience on this subject? Taxes would be lower with a trade. New mini is about $24,500.

Sell it on your own.

Try for the private party sale. It's where you'll find value in your used vehicle. Dealer trade is "easier", but it's very rarely financially beneficial - even notwithstanding taxes.

Can any recommend some good ways to get the word out? Craigs list has been useless so far. Also need it to be value wise. Thanks!

You won't get squat from a dealer. Their in it for the profit, so they buy low to sell high. Doesn't matter to them what it's really worth to you.

Sell privately.

Right now the difference between your best offer and blue book is $4600. If it's not worth just a *little* bit to you to find a buyer willing to pay more than $8900, you might want to re-think.
Another option is CarMax.

Here is something to consider, I recenty did this before I bought the MCS.

I took my 4runner to carmax, they gave me a fair price. Much more than trade...Just make sure you give it a good detail before you sell it, it helps!

my 2 cents....

Thanks all. Unfortunately, no Carmax in Wa. Maybe there is something else like it.
