brand new MINI owner :-)

Hey! I just got a 2003 yellow mini with a sunroof for my 44th b-day from my husband. It's not "new" but new to me, in great shape and I just LOVE it!! I have a few questions, so I look forward to cruisin this site to learn more!
One big question: It has 72 K miles, and whenever I have 2 people in the back seat it bottoms out or makes a scraping noise over bumps. We thought it was the 17" rims but my mini owning sister in law said no way- hers is fine. What about suspension?? Do mini's commonly need that replaced with this many miles? I'd hate to have to do major repairs already, as we did get it from a reputable guy and had it all checked out by a mechanic. Any ideas? Thanks so much~ minijill

Congrats on your MINI - great gift from your husband! Sorry I can't help with the scraping issue as I've never had two people in my back seat. Is it possible that the scraping noise is actually a squeak (perhaps something needs lubrication in the suspension links?)

Is the car lowered? alot of times when the car is lowered adding 200+ lbs in the back that will happen... it's just the tires rubbing on the fender liner... take yer back seats out and enjoy the two seater

welcome to the club!! i have an 04. 62k. the only time my car makes a scraping noise is when i go over speed bumps forgetting the front end of my mini sits awfully close to the ground and the under bumper wing thing made of plastic scrapes on the ground breifly. other than that. if yours is doing something different.. id have it checked out..

I'd have it checked. Probably something simple. The only noise I hear from the back is my son telling me he cant feel his feet anymore. Other than that little whine, I dont hear anything. Oh, and welcome to MINIdom!

Welcome and congrats on the new MINI!

And I agree with everyone else, sounds like the shocks need to be checked
