H&R Coilover Install

After tackling the rear sway bar and end link installation, My confidence is up to a coilover, control arm , camber plate install next .

My issue comes when I picked up a set of slightly used H&R coilovers and am looking to find some installation directions I contacted H&R and they sent me two unrelated files ...anyone out there have a set you could scan or point me in a better direction then I am currently heading.:impatient

Thanks ...

If they're fully assebled c/o, its a no-brainer. Just follow randy's how-to for the spring install, but instead of putting the stock strut back in with the new spring, replace it with the c/o. If you run into any snags, every one here is glad to help.

Good luck and congrats.

This goes in line with the same topic, but the front bump stops when installed on a PSS9 or H&R setup, will these still work. from what i can tell from looking at these h&r coils sitting in my house ready to install the shaft is a LOT bigger on the h&r coils (bilstien strut) compared to the stock shaft.

Can anyone shine some light on what you use for the front bump stop on these???

Here’s a how-to with working pictures https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=92737 , The stock nuts are 21mm on front and 16mm on the rear’s, Bilstein’s are 22mm and 17mm respectively and the rears have a different thread pitch so use the nuts with their kit.

Bilstein has yet to respond to my question about bump stop usage but others have observed the spring will bound before the strut runs out of travel. I’m aware of the progressive nature of bump stops and the energy release from a bound spring but I don’t know if running bump stop-less on the MINI will be an issue.

the strut will bind before it runs out of travel, which i confirmed by putting it upside down in the floor and leaning my weight into it untill it compressed all the way. i think another thing to keep in mind is that the "helper coils" will touch when progressive rates are installed, so that eliminates the chance completely of the top ever coming in contact with the actual shaft seals. who knows...

the rears compress pretty far though from what i can tell by hand compressing them.

nothing. 20k miles no problems. H&R does not use them.

the fronts are bilsteins. all bilsteins have an internal bumpstop (they are actually upside down, the shaft and bumpstop are inside the lower part of the shock). so do NOT try to put a bumpstop on these. i don't know what kit you have, but on some the rears are not bilsteins (they have a skinny normal looking shaft). these do require bumpstops. the included document says to use your normal bumpstop without cutting. i lowered mine about 1.7 inches in the rear, so i did cut mine about in half. YMMV. HTH.
