water leak

Has anyone experienced a water leak in their front foot wells. It appears to coming from out the side of the glove box. It happend over night while parked in a pretty good downpour. All windows where up. No recent wind shield work. An inch of standing water on the passenger side ruined my day.

Does your car have the sunroof? If so, then the drain pipe may be the culprit.

Water Leak

I too have discovered a water leak issue in my 05 MCS/JCW. With only 3000 miles, I have to believe it is a front windshield installation issue and covered under the warranty-I hope. Mine is coming from the driverside front window pillar area. The water runs down the inside of the window pillar, tho' I can't see it,then drips off the bottom edge of the dash, down along side the fuse panel access and onto the floor. I'll keep you posted on the fix.
Always, Motorrr

I had it happen to me. Naturally on a day it downpoured. There was a few inches of water on my right side on my car. I didn't notice until I started to drive and heard a wave of water slosh around. Wow did it suck. They had to replace the computer and a bunch of stuff.

It could also be from the AC system. Sometimes the drains get plugged or run slow. Turning a corner can send the water over the tray and onto the floor..

I don't think an A/C tray overflow would result in an *inch* of standing water...

Simi-topic related, but one owner has posted that there was 2 inches of water in his battery compartment on his MCS. No mention of how it got there, or what he did about it, but as long as you are looking for a flooding car, check the battery box. (BTW, my 11/04 2005 MCS has always been bone dry in both those areas, but I check every 2 weeks regardless).

My sunroof drain that runs down the "A" pillar cracked in cold weather (the car was 8 months old), and when it rained, the right footwell filled with water.

Fun! But no lasting damage.

Good luck.

Red

either a sunroof drain is disconnected or the intake for you climate control (located under hood at firewall on passenger side) is leaking around the sides of the duct. check it out. that's all we've found w/ that type of issue.

Photo of the Leak Culprit!

I had footwell water problems in my 2002 MINI for months. Subsequently, a wet-spot on the headliner developed right near the A-Pillar. After popping the headliner down a bit (a do-it-yourself job if you're careful! Biggest caveat: make sure your hands are clean!), the cause of the leak became REALLY evident. But to spell it out for the technically challenged: THE BLACK HOSE *SHOULD* BE ON THE SILVER PIPE. It was fixed by sliding the hose onto the pipe and zip-tying it in place so it wouldn't come off again.

If it's what I think you're referring to, my coworker with his '05 MCS told me about this... Apparently it's a known issue. The rubber door seal up near the side view mirror area can be the source of leaks that allow water into the passenger footwell.
MINI should take care of this under warranty.

Thanks for posting this. I'm having the same issue.
