Cold Weather - Sluggish Take Off

So - It's been getting colder here. 45 and below and I've noticed my 02 CVT automatic mini cooper is a bit sluggish when pushing the gas pedal down after starting. Is this a normal issue for mini's before the engine warms up?

Any Cold Weather things i should watch out for?

We have some mighty cold weather here in Winnipeg, we hit -40 last year. I have an 06MCS and it is often sluggish until it warms up. No different thought hen any other car I have operated in the cold - just keep the rpms down early in the drive.
