Exhaust Sound-off

This is the first time I have actually agreed to "host" an event, so be kind. So far, there are 10 people signed up with some systems I'm really looking forward to hearing. We have a Magnaflow, a Supersprint, a Borla, a JCW sound kit, a JCW w/ Mynes V2 header, a Invidia q300 with Riss Racing cat less downpipe, a Scorpion/OBX header, and a couple of custom systems (and one just described as "deafening" ). The sign-up doesn't have room for enough of the kind of information that I think would be helpful and interesting to folks, so I would like to encourage the participants to provide some additional information, like year and model of your Mini, as much as you would care to tell us about the exhaust system, and any other mods that relate to the exhaust note. You can put it right in this thread, or if you prefer, pm me, and I will somehow make it available at the event.

Mine is an 06 S with the scorpion cat back and hopefully I will have the OBX header on by May

How exactly are we doing this? just revving the motors in the parking lot? Or are we going to have somewhere to do fly by's? It's always nice to be able to hear the exhaust while accelerating down the road. Even just a nice short 2nd gear run would be nice.

I'm thinking line up across from the General Store, headed up hill, come in the upper entrance, go thru the upper part of the parking lot, out the driveway at the upper end, left, and back down the hill, left into the parking lot, and park in the lot uphill from the store. I'll try and post a route.

Will be in my 05 Justa, Chili red and white, MC37. My exhaust is nothing too special, a 12" long glasspack, that is now 5 years old, not sure how much of the packing is still there. I made a splice before the muffler and have the stock muffler on around town, swap for more power, or at least the sound of more power. Can swap out in less than 15 minutes. The glasspack was $20 from Racer's Wharehouse and Midas helped me with cutting, welding and fitting the tail pipe with stock "beer can" tip.

Thanks for the info. I would love to see a picture of each showing how you did the splice, next time you make the switch.

My wife and I both have Volt exhausts on our R53s. BUT, I think we're bringing the CTS-V wagon down. I'll cruise through and throw some supercharged V8 music at you!

I have a 2004 MC40 (Guess that was redundent). It has the Supersprint Cat-Back with the race mufflers and the resonator. This has been on the car for at least 5 years. I also have an E-bay Special 4 to 1 header and no cat.

I would like to add some more info to 6-14 , as it becomes available.

The plan appears to be that on Thursday at 3pm we will assemble in the parking lot near the store, and each car will make a small loop. This should give us a reasonable opportunity to hear acceleration, deceleration, and a couple of gear changes. The route is indicated on the pic below.

I would like to see a few more entries, maybe a one-ball....

What would be even cooler, would be to have the event at the Overlook on the Dragon. That way you could hear WOT and Shifting even better especially the sound bouncing off of the trees and rock walls is awesome. Of course I do understand the logistics problem of taking over the Overlook at mid day but still that would be sweet.

here is a video I found of a nissan exhaust competition at fontana. Kinda gives an idea of what we will be doing.
http://youtu.be/rYjNJxi69Do

that number 12 car sure sounds nice!

I've never been here. My only question is what will traffic be like on the loop for this? both car and foot traffic. If there is too much traffic either cars or especially people walking along the road we won't be able to really get on the gas too much. Not that any of us will be doing anything reckless.

Is there a straight section of road there where we could accelerate through 2nd?

Hard acceleration within the Village is not going to be tolerated. Any driving should be kept to the speed limit.

LOL .

Another spot I just thought of which would be a lot closer, is the parking lot on 28 right below the bridge that goes over the river before fontana. There is a slight hill there that you could get a good under load sound with out a lot of speed. And plenty of room for spectating.

i mean driving within the Village of course. It gets pretty congested and showing off makes you look stupid.

I couldn't agree with you more. I think of the Village as the Pit area at my local track, you speed in there you get thrown out. If you want to show off save it for the "Track" err Dragon.

I have a 2008 MCCS, Remus Street Power-Sound Race Exhaust, stock down pipe, and a DDM Works Street intake.

I also, can't stick around for the entire event, as I signed up for the Tapoco dinner run that leaves at 3:30. Could I be one of the early contestents?

dvavd, I'll sign up as well with the twin glasspack straight-back (under the battery box) on my R53. It's the prototype for the G4 "subtle" system. OK, it's not quite "subtle", but it's live-able and makes great power... and a nice crackle on overrun...

We will HAVE to keep the speed WAY down in Fontana - I fully 100% agree with the posters above, it's like the pit area of the local track. It may be best to burble on down to the gas station and accelerate up the hill there...

Thanks, everybody for the interest in this new event. For a couple of reasons, I think it's best to keep it in the village as planned. Within the village, we are a sanctioned event and Fontana likes us. Outside, we are subject to other authorities that might not like us. We would also be deserting most of our audience if we are not in Fontana Village. I think the traffic issue can be handled with 3 flagmen. The rest of my home club, GulfSouthMotoring, will be at the jetboat rides when this is happening, so I need volunteers for the flagman (or woman) jobs. I'll bring the flags, but it would probably also be good if you could have a walkie-talkie. If you want to volunteer, but will be a driver, or will arrive late, or have to leave early, please indicate that you will be part-time, and why.
