Knock sensor

Knock sensor
I have a 2005 Cooper Convertible with an occasional "service engine" light. Had it read at MOTD and is a bad knock sensor. Where is the knock sensor located on this engine? A quick look at it didn't reveal the location. I can get a new sensor and see pictures of it, a sensor that fastens under a bolt on the engine and a lead that plugs into a connector but I don't see it on the car. Anybody know?

On your car its located on the front of the engine behind the intake manifold, you'll have to remove the intake to replace it. The connector is on right by the fuel injector rail. If you need the sensor let us know we keep them in stock.

The problem lies with the length of the knock sensor bolt. It's a tad long ....seems longer than it has to be. Before it is even backed out all the way it will hit the back side of the intake manifold....
If careful, you can just loosen the intake manifold enough to snake the bolt out the remaining few threads left....problem is when resetting the intake manifold you "should" use a new intake manifold gasket....your call.
But, before doing anything, I would just make sure you have a proper connection to it. They are not known to be an issue for our cars. Could be the plug.

I bought a new knock sensor and will put it in when I am next in there. But since it happens only occasionally and always when at highway speeds and steady, I am thinking that it could possibly be a leaky injector. Any other ideas are welcome.

Could be.
Or maybe they just need a new set of O-rings.
I swapped out orig. injectors at 80K miles for JCW's. The old ones looked like they had been at the bottom of Davey Jones Locker for two years.... Rusty as hell.
At that time, the original O-rings were hard and brittle so they would have been in need of replacing soon anyways.
