TSB or known fix for this rattle?

Had my MC for a month now. Loving it! 850 miles. Its pretty solid. I have one intermittent (but repeatable) rattle that I have a question about.

I hear a rattle or resonance between 2500-3000 rpms. Not all of the time. And it can happen for five minutes into a trip then stop. Doesn't happen only at start up. Can be driving for 2 hours then it starts. It seems like it comes from behind the big speedo, but I can press on it and it doesn't stop. Maybe the air vent on top of it? I try pressing on that too - no luck.

Really, so far its not terrible since it doesn't happen all the time, but I'm sure as the car loosens up even more it will get worse (or maybe just get better!).

Anyone have that problem and got it fixed? If so, how? As usual, I'm apprehensive about the dealer taking the car apart to fix a rattle as the "fix" usually causes more rattles/stains/broken bits.

Thanks!

Hmmm, lots of views, but no one with the same problem? I guess our MINIs really are as unique as each owner!

I had a similar rattle. The tech used some felt tape on the tach housing and it hasn't returned. Not to say that was the right fix, but so far, so good.

Interesting, the tach, not the speedo? Do you know where he put the tape?

Thanks for the reply.

Not exactly. The WO said he " removed back cover and insulated tachometer."

had this issue and it was from a lose exhaust clamp. 5 minute fix.

just check underneath from the backend and you can see the two clamps for the exhaust. check em!

rarely will U see a TSB for something as petty as a dash rattle. best procedure is to wait and let it get worse, then the dealer will be able to replicate and quiet it down.

I had a rattle coming from the drivers side speaker grill (the speaker in the A Pillar). Tech removed the pillar cover and used felt tape around the grill, solved the problem totally.

Bringing this back from the dead, but i notice a rattle at aroudn 10-20 mph on the speedometer.

I am 100% sure its coming from the speedo in the center. Every time i watch it hit 10-20mph somewhere in that range the rattle is produced. Sounds like its rubbing something inside. Whether i am accelerating or braking that rattle is there at those speeds.

Anyone else have this problem and had a dealer fix it?
