Servicing Cooper S Supercharger Oil

Found this article very helpful as per servicing oil in supercharger.

2002-2006 MINI Cooper S Supercharger Oil Service https://wiki.bentleypublishers.com/x/AgDsAQ

It might answer questions about servicing the oil. I know the topic pops up from time to time.

Is it really a 3/16" allen wrench, or a 5 mm?

3/16 fits perfect, in my experience. 5 mm is a tad larger than 3/16, I think about 0.1 mm.

OK. Here is a stupid question (not my first). Since the front is so easy to check, if the oil level is OK there, what are the odds that the rear is also OK?

What do you need to remove to check the rear fluid level?

The rear resrvoir is usually the low one, and the PTO in the back is what fails most. The extra heat in the back must have something to do with the oil burning up.

The water pump... which is fairly well buried on the engine... Like posted above, not terribly difficult, but it takes awhile...

I take it the coolant must be drained?

I really hope the s/c can come out without draining the coolant. I'm going to have to change the fluid in mine soon, and I want to open the cover and inspect the gears.

The SC can be removed without draining the coolant, it's tricky but we have done it, most time we don't because getting the SC off is easier then getting it back on with the water pump still in the car. Plus it never hurts to flush that system too.

We only do SC oil service out of the car to make sure we get 6 ounces in the front/pulley end and 3 or 4 ounces in the PTO. This also allows us to really test, look and scope the gut's without taking the whole thing apart.

Plus if it's not leaking or making noise we see no reason take apart a low mile (less then 75K) SC for just an oil service.
