JCW brake kit vs. Brembo GTs

All...can anyone comment/explain the difference between the JCW Brake Kit vs. Brembo Gran Turismo's Big Brake Kit?

Now you know the top speed of your average MINI S is about 150MPH.

This Brembo GT set might actually end-over-end the MINI. You will probably have to run 18" wheels with the GT set also.

The JCW Sport Brake Kit should be just fine and you will still maintain your warranty.

There seems to be some confusion with regard to the factory upgrade JCW front brake kits, especially with the dealers. I just returned my kit to them, which I was planning to install on a 2009 R55, because it wasn't precisely what I thought I was buying. When I called they weren't too sure of the specs. For the record, the rotors were stock size (11.5") from a MCS that were cross-drilled. The calipers were floating TRWs painted beautiful red with the JCW logo emblazened on them. The brake pads may have been upgraded. All for $1140! I just bought the Brembo GT kit for $2900, with the four piston calipers and great big rotors, it also included steel lines. It's just what I wanted.

You are correct. The kit they ordered was P/N: 34110428914

The only way you get the bigger rotors X4 and BREMBO calipers is by ordering the FULL JCW Brake kit P/N: 34110432802

This kit replaces all of the rotors and calipers with bigger and better brakes.

I have to seriously buy you a beer for pointing this out to me. I would have been very disappointed when I discovered this on my own.

I just canceled my first order and had them order the FULL-UP JCW brake kit. It is only $412.00 more for a total of $1600.00

The biggest difference in the 2 kits is basically how they were designed by both Mini and Brembo to work with the Mini. Similar to the SRT8 brakes or Subaru STi brakes, the manufacturers, since dealing with warranty on these, want to ensure they meet expectations on things like life span, pad life, noise, dust, servicability at dealer level....which you would expect from an OE product. The GT system was designed by Brembo for performance as the main target.

With either kit you don't have to worry about launching the MINI end over end, as factory balance/master/abs have been factored into both kit. We just installed the Brembo kit on our '08 MCS on Friday night, haven't really beat on it yet, but so far so good.

also, running 17" BBS with plenty of calip clearance. not the greatest pic, but it's a quick one i just snapped.

Get over it, size does matter when it comes to brakes. At what point do you have too much brake? Bragging rights count. Since we're all in violent agreement that we're not going to launch our MINI's end over end in a "B" movie Deux a Machina conclusion... Brembos rule!!!

That would be your opinion. IMO the factory JCW Sport Brake Kit rules. This kit also gets an ECU reflash to better control the car.
Also maintains the factory warranty and you get the super cool JCW logo.

I was in here in March talking like I know what I was doing, and that I would have a high-quality video posted on a Brembo Big Brake, ADR 17" wheel conversion. As part of that I learned a few things. Well the video's done. I'm not selling anything. This is the next phase of a couple of projects that we're doing and you might be interested in. Check it out at www.dailymotion.com/evtv.

i know this is an old post, and hasn't been touched into for a while but somethings i have to point out that i noticed were missing...

JCW: 12.4in rotors are big, one piece, rotors, upgraded 4 piston calipers, and also larger rear rotors and spaced caliper (the caliper on the rear is the same as stock...) and it will fit under a few of the stock 17in wheels, which isn't possible in the brembos, at least to my knowledge... so the kit as has been said is tailored to the car... they use the stock brake lines (which can be upgraded easily enough for 100 bucks and then just throw in fluid as well...) also DBA has Two-piece replacements for the JCW rotors which are a little thicker than stock as well... not quite sure what the piston area is on either kit... but that could be a big factor in braking power...

Brembo: 4 piston brake calipers, two piece rotors, stainless steel lines... they're also wider rotors than the JCWs which aids in heat soak and dissipation... and the pads are definitely geared more toward track and very hard street driving than mostly street like JCW. obviously both have changeable pads though so that aspect can be changed... but the Brembos don't have rear upgrades... they may be like stoptechs (another very viable idea that's about the same as the JCW's price at most locations...) which are balanced to work with stock rear brake size and not changing the bias too much...

IMHO they both give bling, JCW in amazing OEM style (which can be subtly upgraded with DBA two piece, lines and fluid for about the same as stoptechs and definitely less than Brembo GTs...) and still have the brembo engineering behind it... or go for the Brembo big $$s bling and have to also invest in wheels that will fit, maybe even two sets if you run two sets of tires... so in my personal opinion the JCWs will give you what you need without extra money... Brembos if you don't know what you're getting into may cost you a lot more than you bargained for since you'll need at the very least spacers and longer studs.

BINGO, basically the same things being as though Brembo makes the JCW kit. I would buy the JCW's if they are the same price (just because they are factory and warrented), but if the Brembo's are cheaper, buy them.

hey dunphy, the DBA replacements for the JCWs don't fit. They're 320x28 instead of 316x22. A NAM user tried to install them, and they didn't fit... (otherwise I'd already have a set!)
