Very cool. I have a question... did you buy the OEM switch bank after you bought your MINI? I'm looking to install the OEM rear fog light and have to order it. If you did, I just want to confirm it's part 61 31 6 958 036. Thanks.

negative. my mini came with all the switches as you see. i actually re-wired both my front and rear fog lights to come on with the running lights. for the rear fog, you can tap into the rear wheel arch light, its pretty easy to access. for my front fogs, i used the front arch light as the signal to a relay which powers the fogs, which I have replaced with orange leds.

sorry, i dont have the part # for you, but i know there are sites that give those.

Yeah. I'm pretty-sure that's the right number. Just that no one has really matched up a picture with it. I've debated putting in my own switch but decided to go ahead and get the actual OEM panel. In my research, the lowest I've found it was for $156, plus $27.55 for the light, then whatever cost the dealership has to charge to turn it on in the ECU. We have a reputable one that's about an hour away, so I'm going to get with them whenever I buy the parts.

Thanks.

After some more research, I learned the actual part number for the complete switch box is 61 31 6 917 993. It's a European part number, which is why it won't show up in some American BMW parts databases. I took the gamble and bought it plus the rear fog light. The dealership wanted a VIN to compare with, and I was going to ask for the last 7 digits of yours. But, if memory serves, you bought your MINI used. I am guessing your rear fog light is a retrofit like I am doing, so I figured it would not show up in their system.

Just wanted to say my switch bank and rear fog light came in today. I did have the right part number. Now I just have to make a trip to the dealership to get it turned on.

You have under glows? Nice, I'm installing some in the spring... bringing back the 90's.

Pictures?

I'm just going to wire the unders into the corner markers, (and disconnect the corners, I hate them) and the underglows will come on with my headlights, no extra switch.
Bad idea?

Could be. Depends on the cops in your area. Do they pull ppl over with lights?

It's not that much more difficult to run wires into the cab. Get a grabby tool from lowes poke a hole in the firewall grommet and jam several wires through. This way you. Can add more crap later

I took out my side marker bulbs and vinyled em

I haven't seen anyone with under glows in a long time. But I'm told it is illegal, I don't see why.

The Code of Virginia explicitly states only certain lights on vehicles are permissible, such as two headlights, two tail lights, two fog lights, two driving lights, etc., and that they will of the appropriate color (white, amber, red, etc.). As a general provision, nothing is allowed outside this realm, unless specific to certain emergency vehicles. By keeping the law this simple, it automatically disallows the use of any other non-standard lighting on a vehicle, regardless of blinking or not, color, or location. This is most likely the approach all other states take on this matter. Since the law is this simple, there is no need to state or justify why you are not allowed to use under glows, strobes, etc.

I have heard in the past that such alternative lighting is generally considered a distraction, that other drivers may stare at it and not pay attention to their normal driving. You are at your discretion to believe such drivers could be so easily distracted (as with cell use, etc.).
