Clanking up front again????

So I have replaced pretty much everything up front. Upper strut mounts, upper/lower ball joints done about a year ago. Struts, sway bar connecting rods, outer tie rods about 5 months ago and most recently wishbone bushings from Powerflex. But again the front end sounds as if the wheels are going to break off. Any other ideas?

Did you replace the often worn out A-arm bushings? How many miles on the car?

Sounds, or feels? Cause that's two different things. With poly bushings, your going to hear sounds louder with the suspension, then with stock bushings, thus why most bushings on cars are neoprene, and not poly. So if you had a bad bushing(s) you probably didn't change the sound. If it feels like the tires want to come off, then that s a different story.

The suspension on these things are a little stiff out of the box, so putting larger rims/ run flats, and or springs and struts will certainly give you a teeth rattling sound that your front tires would of sheared off on that last bump.

What mods have been performed on the car prior to this sound? Springs/struts upgrades? Larger rims? Also, I've seen it many of times, just cause something is new, doesn't mean it's fine out of the box, and with stuff that's a year old, there is a chance they may have gone bad in that time.

Like a metal to metal clanking sound while driving at more or less slower speeds. Say between 1 and 40 mph but is still noticeable after just less. No real suspension upgrades except the control arm powerflex bushings which made it quiet again for a short while. Wheels are 17".

So from your other post -- your wheel is doing this?

That video explains what a worn hub bearing looks like

If it is a 2005+, with the oil filled to motor mount, it can clunk when it fails....older ones are a different desgin, but can still wear, espically with lots of miles

The wheel only moves a bit side to side but not from top to bottom. Didn't think about the pass side motor mount. I have inserts on the tranny mount and bottom rear mount. When standing on the frame with the hood open and bouncing the car up and down I can't get the clanking sound.

I don't think it shouldn't move at all -- so something is not right...when you say Side to side do you mean forward and back towards the body of the car? Failing Axle or CV Joint?

I am assuming you are torquing wheel bolts on appropriately, that you are using Hub Centric rings for the wheels, that the wheels are not damaged in anyway.

Powerflex A-Arm bushings if installed properly should be good for the life of the vehicle...so..

I would very carefully go through all the items again, double checking torque specs of the ball joints, sway bar etc..

Sorry -- do keep us updated though.

Do this to check you engine mount. Have it in park, or put it in 4th or 5th gear so it doesn't roll away lol. Open the hood and push the car back and forth and watch the mount and engine, if you get your metal sound, or the engine is swaying way too much and so is the mount, bingo. Also see if there is oil residue under the mount. They are hydraulic, and are filled with glycol, so when they split, they spill all o er that area.
