The cut doesn't void any warranty from MINI, the hole does not rupture any integrity of the car, and if you decide that you don't want the intake anymore the bulkhead piece can be purchased new. I personally talked to a MINI dealership about this and they confirmed that it is not bad at all to make the hole.

Just if you are curious.

Really? Nice! That's reassuring. Thanks. I may in fact take part in the next buy. If it's not install-able from home, what was the total cost to get it done?

No problem man. It disuaded me at first when I thought about getting it and finally asked the dealer and he calmed all my worries. I am not sure how much labor would cost at the dealer or if your dealer will support after market part installation (some say nay nay), but go ahead and just call up your local mini service department and ask about it. They should be able to happily assist you, but they will warn you that the part is not covered under warranty and they cannot cover any problems that could arise (not that they will, but they still have to disclose it).

Hope this helps.

You should definitely have a conversation with your dealer to get their stance on CAI's. Most do not care while some others do.

As other customers will attest, you don't need to be a mechanic to install the DoS CAI. Also, you don't need to cut the bulkhead that comes with your car if you order a precut bulkhead panel or purchase a new one to mod yourself. This allows you to return your MINI back to stock if you ever decide to do so in the future.

Hey Clint,

I might be interested in picking up one of these. What I am looking to get are:

- DoS CAI w/ T-Bolt (I will be purchasing the JCW hard plastic inlet tube)
- DoS Modified upper Bulkhead
- DoS Butterfly Noise Baffle
- WMW Performance Diverter Valve

Can you PM me a price on these based on the GB? These will be installed on a 2008 R55 S.

Also, I am toying with the idea of driving 12 hours to MITM but I haven't committed yet. Are you offering any specials, installs, etc while at the meet? I am curious if it would just be worth it to drive up and see you guys to get it done, ask questions, etc. I have no problem doing it myself (other than cutting up the bulkhead), but I didn't know if you were doing anything like that during the meet.

Let me know.

Thanks!

Hi zcast,

I will be at MITM doing installs and hanging out at the DoS booth at MITM 2011. (I will be driving about 21 hours to get there. ) 12 hours is a reasonable drive and it's a GREAT Mini and MINI crowd in CO. You should get yourself out to MITM 2011!!

I'll shoot you a PM with the pricing that you requested by tonight. Shoot me a PM with your desired shipping city and transmission type just in case you can't make it out to CO this summer.

Best,

-Clint

zcast, thanks for your follow-up PM. I'm more than happy to transport a CAI out to MITM 2011 for you if you're interested in joining the group buy.

Fifth DoS CAI Group Buy of 2011 is closed!

The fifth DoS CAI group buy is officially closed. Thank you, pocari, for grabbing the #5 spot!!

All CAI's and parts purchased during this group buy will ship no later than 7/23/11. DoS will send shipping confirmation and complete installation instructions to each group buy participant when your respective orders ship.

PM me with more specifics. It would be cool to see a shot of your engine bay and some arrows pointing to the parts that you'd like to see in different colors.

Personally, I'd recommend leaving any OEM plastic black and swapping-in red silicone couplers if you'd like to spice things up a bit in the engine bay.

Just PM'd you back with some ideas.
The Cliff's Notes: Get some red Samco boost tubes, red flex loom (w/red zip ties) and some red red silicone couplers. Then you're in business!

Hey, can you explain what these "Group Buys" are about? I'm thinking about getting one of these CAIs and didn't know if the group buy offers a discount or something...

Hi koolburro,

The group buy is explained here.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...026-post1.html

PM me if you have any more questions.

We may do one more of these this year. However, after the 6th Group Buy we're putting a hiatus on further CAI Group Buys.

Thanks for your interest in Defenders of Speed.

Hi Fifth Group Buy folks,

I'll be sending tracking updates to you concerning your orders on Monday 7/25/11. FedEx Ground and USPS are grabbing your boxes on Monday afternoon.

FedEx Ground does not offer Saturday pickup, but your CAI's are ready to head out tomorrow.

For Chris and anyone else who's interested, here's what I need from you to join this latest group buy:

1) Send me your preferred email address for PayPal. I will send you an invoice for a CAI at group buy pricing & whatever other parts that you wish to purchase at this time.

2) Let me know your preferred shipping address so that I can send you a quote.

3) Let me know if your MINI has a manual or an automatic transmission.

Drop me an email or PM if you have any other questions.

-Clint
