Any idea why the Curt hitches don't work for the R53 and R52S models? Is it due to central exhaust? Battery box in the boot?

Hello, We have some listed for the r53. We have added more fitments then even Curt had based on peoples installs on NAM and elsewhere where they have found workarounds. The hitch sets on the bumper connection so no battery box to worry about. If Curt had an issue they did not have it fit in their system, based on a simple set up. But we all know MINI guys are inventive and find workarounds.

All mods to make it work are noted in each product description.

R53 for example.

Does anybody have a picture of this 11130 hitch on an R53? Does it really fit? Why does Curt not list it as such?

Thanks!

They dont list it because of those rear back up (pre 7/2004)or fog light ( add on post 7/2004) in this case. The MINI people here found workarounds.

Thanks! My 05 S doesn't have a light there, just a black plug. I see that Curt used to list 05+ for fitment of the 11130, but then later changed it to 07+. Any idea why?

Does the black plug fit back in the hole when not using the hitch? Is the height just right to line up with the hole, or might I have to trim the bumper cover?

The 11126 is listed for the early non - S cars. Do you know why that doesn't fit the S? They both seem to have the same hole under the bumper.

Thanks again 😉

No problem.
If i remember right there was a slight change in the design. No the plug will have to be off, it protrudes. I guess you could make a clip or if you have plastic cutting skills cut out the old plug to fit around it. It would be very thin on the top and bottom of the plug.
They have a different angle and if I remember right more room to clear the OEM Cooper S exhaust.

Ok, as for the 11126 it kinda had to be the exhaust I suppose. I wonder why they don't make one version that fits both S and base? Maybe the spare on the base and the exhaust on the S impose competing design requirements.

On the 11130, the hitch protrudes out the hole a bit, but the height matches without enlarging the hole.... yes?

Thx again most helpful people!
