Do Brake dust covers work?

OK so one time when I was looking at items for Minis, I saw a dust shield cover. It is supposed to cut down on the brake dust that gets on the rims. Do these things work and or they simple to put on without causing other problems?

I am thinking higher quality ceramic brakes is the only thing that helps.

Ceramics work great, and I am not a fan of the look of the dust covers.
I have seen some write about the heat not disapating like it should with covers, but never met anyone who had problems because of the covers.

I am a big fan of the Hawk ceramics because that is what I have, but I have put other brands on other cars and had good luck with those ceramics. They don't have to cost a lot to work well. I have paid as little as $35 for ceramics for a 4th gen Maxima that had low dust, stopped well and lasted a long time.

Besides, if you get ceramics it give you a chance to work on your MINI.

I agree. I think the "heat dissipation" argument is more theoretical. But, the shileds do ruin the look, especially when your wheels have wide open spokes, as does the MINI. Makes them look like wheel covers.

I know someone who uses the dust shields. He swears by them. Me I'd swear at them. Good way to cook ones brakes me thinks. I put Hawk Ceramic's on my car & the dust is hardly there & what dust there is appears to be lighter in color.

Yea...What they said! I don't think I'd use them for both the heat and the looks. EBS pads work wonders.
