Snows on S Lites

Anyone have snows on S-Lites? Let me know your opinion, which ones, etc.

Would it be better to:

1) sell the used S-Lites ( you dont seem to get much for them )
2) keep the S-Lites for "resale", and clutter up my garage.
3) buy some 15" steelies and snows....(cheap snows or otherwise.)...
4) buy some cheap snows for the S-lites...(17" cheap snows??? is there such a thing?)

I have another vehicle, (urban assault vehicle / SUV) w/ offroad tires...so the Mini doesnt have to be set up for serious snow driving...but my wife and I would have to share it.

She has all season Dunlop run flats on her MINI

decisions decisions....

Thanks

I did the 15" steelies w/Bridgestone Blizzak tires for winter driving. They came inflated, and ready to install from the Tire Rack. Now I just swap them out every spring and fall. Pretty easy.

That way, I don't care if the salt eats away at my rims, when they're the cheap black painted steelies... If they were nice alloys, I'd feel bad driving the car all winter.

I have to drive mine all year, it's my daily driver.

There is a moderately good market for S-lites here on NAM. The cash from the sale would allow you to purchase some simple 'steelie' rims or other inexpensive rims from TireRack or some other vendor, who would do the mounting and balancing, saving you time and $. You could buy smaller wheels than the 17's, giving you better performance in the snow and a cheaper tire price to boot.

I just put a set of Dunlop Winter Sport M3's 215/45 - 17 on my S-lites.

I've only had them on for a day though. Although by many the accounts I've read they're a much better tire in the dry, which will probably be most of the time for my drive to work, than many of the other winter tires.

I went with the 17" size, intead of the 15's with some cheap rims as is usually recomended for winter because of a big brake kit (which I haven't gotten around to installing yet )

I put 17" Blizzaks on my S-lites last winter and they are going on again soon. They were great in the ice and snow!

It's that time of year again, the days are getting shorter and the nights colder. I procrastinated last year and just drove a "winter dedicated vehicle", while my MINI felt neglected in the garage. I'm making this consideration again....put expensive 17" snows on my worthless S- lites or buy 15" steelies w/ less expensive tires and offset this cost by trying to sell my S-lites.

A year later and I'm hoping for more opinions. Thanks!

You cannot beat the look of steel rims. Go for those. Then get summer tires for them and switch the tires out each season.

I simply did a straight trade with another member: My SLites with runflats for his 15" with all-seasons. He got a nice upgrade for no cost, and I got what I needed for no hassle and no cost. I'll use the all-seasons in the winter and swap them to snows when they need replacing (or if I don't like the 15" all seasons this winter).
