Winter Wheel & Tires?

Im thinking of another set of wheels and tires for my 2006S for winter driving here in Colorado. It has 17" web spoke run flats on it now. Does anyone know, could I go with a smaller wheel with a mud & snow radial tire or what would be the best way to go. Thanks ahead of time

Smaller wheels, and taller sidewalls are, in my opinion, the way to go for winter. Also a good idea to go narrower tread width as well, to optomize snow traction.

For the winter I run 15" steelies with 185/65 Pirelli's in New Hampshire, but the roads around here a rough, pitted and unforgiving (an that's in the summer ) But even going to a 16" 195/55-16 tire would give you better more comfortable winter driving, and not sacrafice much for dry road enjoyment. I'm also a believer that performace winter tires are a better choice than any all-season.

Yes, skinnier and taller is a good idea. Getting a 15 inch rim is absolutely acceptable on your MCS, but if you have the JCW brakes or any other aftermarket big brake kit, you might (will) have fitment issues.

Alex at tirerack is a great guy to talk to about this stuff.

I had almost the same problem here in Ohio, and found a new takeoff set of 15" stock 8 spoke wheels and Continental tires for $235 shipped on eBay. The skinnier tire DOES make a difference and the wheel doesn't show as much winter grime. While it is H-rated and not V, who drives fast in the winter, anyway?

I've been known to fly down a snow covered road or two at night. Not that I'd need a V rated or even H rated tire to do it. I do use winter tires, not all seasons.

bwadair living in Colorado you most likely will be better off with snows. I just bought a set of Hakka 2's 185/65/15 from Greer Enterprises. They've been mounted on a set of 15" holies.
