uh-oh. Are they 4X114.3 or 4X100?

My wheels came in today, minus tires, so I decided to make sure they fit. They do but I think I may have a small problem. The packaging says they are 4X100 and like I said, they do fit with the lugnuts in place. The problem? On the reverse side of the wheel it is stamped 4X114.3.

Could this be nothing more than a miss stamped wheel? All four are stamped the same way and each fit with the lugnuts and the corresponding box does say 4X100. :impatient

Any suggestions?

Here's a diagram from the [urhttp://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/techpage.jsp?techid=92]Tire Rack site regarding bolt circles[/url]

measuring across the pattern like that a 4x100 pattern would be 3.93 inches center to center. A 4x114.3 would be 4.5 inches.

If they were other than 4 x 100, you would not have a doubt. They simply wouldn't bolt up. At least I don't think they would. If you're using proper hub-centric rings and the lug bolts thread in easily and torque down correctly, you should have no worries.

Take another look at the wheels. I had a similar scare when my wheels first arrived. For whatever reason, there are several different bolt patterns that are cast into the face of my wheels. Like you I saw 4 x 114.3 and thought there waas a problem with the order. Then I also noticed 5 x 120. Finally I did see 4 x 100.

Yea, most wheels have a 4x100 and 4x114.3 bolt patterns...makes it easier to just make one wheel with eight lug holes than two with four.

1 inch = 2.54cm = 25.4mm

so if it is about 4inches,
4x25.4 = 101.6

looks like a 4x100..

Yep, checked with a metric ruler to be sure and they are 4X100. I guess the stamp was placed on there just as the buzzer for lunch started ringing.

which wheel was this again?

probably the same goofs that burnt down their own fire station after a
fire safety awareness parade.

Seems like all the measuring was pointless. If they'd been the wrong offset they wouldn't have mounted.

A lot of wheels have multiple sizes indicated on them. SSRs have several Bolt#/Bolt circle numbers and their weight ratings listed on the wheels, since the same wheel 'blank' is used for all of them. The numbers are cast or forged into the wheels during the molding process and the bolt holes are machined in later. The correct weight rating is applied according to your actual pattern.

i still think Enkei should have placed a label on the wheel
indicating 4x100 even if the mold was originally made for
4x114.3.
