DIY: break pads or breakes roters and sensor

I have 52K on my mini. This is with original break pads and roters. Normally, I dont use
my breaks to slow down, and I drive on highway. Thus, I I get more use out of my breks.
Recently, my breaks have been sticking. They also sound like they are rubbing when I drive around. So, I feel I need to replace my break pads very soon.

Anyways, the point is when I call my local dealer the cost for the works is $888.15. That is the repacement of roters, pads, and a sensor. If I do the pads myself, it will cost about $120. I think pads are fairly simply. They just clip off and on. Where is this sensor located ? Do I need any special tool to replace my own roters ?

I replaced roters once on a civic before, so I am not really scared. My only fear is to remember
lefty lousey.

one sensor up front, one sensor in back

believe it is left front and right rear... it is a thing that will wear down and make contact with the rotor should the pad go away that far. Easy to see and work with, just remove a wheel for clarity after crawling around to locate which of the 4 wheels have one !

Diy!

Has the brake replacement light come on? if not, the sensors are OK.
Have you had the fluid changed, per the manual? if not, get this done soon.
Have the discs been scored, are they below the min thickness, or are they pitted? if not, they do not need to be replaced.
the rear calipers may be tricky. pay attention to instructions regarding the rear calipers.

this really is a DIY job, if you believe your labor rate is more than $200 an hour, have the dealer do it, otherwise save $600 and DIY in about 3 hours(less if you have access to hoists and air tools).

break indicator light

The break indicator light has not come on.
However, I did notice that there is a small grove on the rear passenger side roter.
It looks like a rock or something might have gotten bettween my pad and my roter.
It created a grove near the center hole on the roter. I guess this one would have to be
replaced or trued.

And less use out of your transmission, which costs significantly more than a couple of decent brake pads.

This is DIY if you are mechanical, its hard to tell from your post if you are.As you know theres more to break service than just changing the pads and rotors. The best suggestion id by the previous post to check the DIY in the NAM or go to Motoring File who also have step by step for break maintenance
