Question for Alex (or anyone else) on tire pressure

Alex -

Thank you for helping me with my order from Tire Rack. I am now running the 15" Kosei K1 TS on my 2002 MCS. My question is what tire pressure I should run them at. They have the Ultra High Performance All-Season ContiExtremeContact in a 205/55/15.

My driving style is spirited (sometimes VERY spirited!).

2002 MCS DS/Blk - 15% Alta - Pilo CAI - Borla Street - 15" Kosei K1 TS - Stainless Brake Lines - Aero Bumpers - soon to have MTH software - more to come........

Seth,

Just refer to your tire pressure recommendation plate on the driver's door jam.

For MINIs with load of 2 people use
30-33 psi front and rear

For MINIs with load of 4 people use
35-38 psi front and rear

This is the same for all tires used with all MINIs.

For my driving style, I tend to keep all four around 37psi. I'll bet you'll roll your tires over running 30psi as recommended on the door jamb.

Here's a test. Take some white chalk and mark a verticle line along the sidewall to the tread. Go out and do some "spirited" driving. Now check how much of the chalk wore off (this is cause by the side walls rolling over during "hard" cornering. If it's rolling over excessively onto the sidewalls, you'll want to increase pressure. Some peoples' driving styles won't roll over at 30psi...but for my driving style, I've gotta keep them at least 36 psi.

Another added benefit of higher psi's is higher MPG's!

In the summer I use 34-35psi for driving by myself or one passenger.

This should work for most applications.
