Michelin CrossClimate2 ?
Michelin CrossClimate2 ?
Has anyone used these tires on a Mini?
I use all season tires. Good enough for my "spirited" street driving, and there's no way I'm switching rubber for the winter.
When I first got my 2024 JCW F57, I narrowed my choices down to the Continental DWS 06 Plus, and the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4. Their rating are nearly identical.
I went with the Conti's, because they are slightly lighter and have a slightly narrower tread width. (So lower rolling resistance.) Since I'm running 215mm, there is still plenty of tire patch. No issues with my hardest driving.
But I'm about to put 7.5" wheels on my F57, and am looking for other possible choices. I'm going to still use 215mm, so could re-use the Contis, but I just saw the Michelin CrossClimate2. Going by the published specs and user ratings, these look like the clear winner: Better in the rain. MUCH better in the snow. Same tread width. Same weight.
But what hangs me up are 2 things:
1: The tread pattern is extremely unusual.
2: This is listed as a "Grand Touring" tire, whereas the other two are listed as "Sport AS."
Is there something about these tires that make them "less sporty" or is this just a marketing thing?

Yes they do.
They add about 1lb per tire, and of course 10mm in width. (Assuming the OE had not been runflats.)
I went with 215's on the stock JCW rims because I wanted a slightly softer ride.
Now that I've had this setup for a year, I'm very happy with it. However I wanted to get lighter wheels, to improve ride quality. The only ones I could find that I like are Advan TC4's, which don't come in 17x7.0, so I got the 17x7.5.
To maintain the same "tire" feel I have now, I'd want to go with 225's. However, that adds yet another lb per corner. Since the super-light Advans will already be making things better, I figure I can get by with 215mm tires on them as well. Heck, I could probably go with 205's, but that's really pushing it.

Where do you live?
I have Michelin CrossClimate2s on the other car (AWD) and they are awesome in the snow. Great tread life too. If you don't have to deal with snow much then the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 is a better choice (had those previously) but only adequate in light snow.
