Hi folks. I am ditching the 18" RFs but want to run the same wheels and something with more sidewall. 235-40-18 are almost the exact size of the available 19" tires in height and width. The one I want is a 235-45-18. Has anyone done this?
Stock size 235-25-19s are 25.5" high with a 7.6" tread. The 235-45s are 26.3 high with 7.7" tread. Wheels turned all the way I have inside inside clearance of barely 1/2". The change in radius would only be .4" so it should be okay but would like to hear from someone who has tried it. Anyone?
So I did go with 235-45-18s - Banging the car pretty card resulted in no rubbing so it seems like a safe decision, and I can feel the difference in the ride but the new rubber is also not RFT either. Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus In hindsight I probably could have gone with the slightly taller (26.7") 245/45/18 but they weren't in stock. The height would not have been an issue and the 9.6" section width is only .1" greater than the factory 19s. Pilot Sports would have also been a good choice as a tire that can survive winter use.
Thanks for following up. I was looking for this thread the other day but couldn't find it. My wife's Clubman needs new winter tires and I was trying to figure out what size I could fit on those exact wheels.
