Brake pad and disc replacement

Hi

I own a 2017 Mini Clubman JCW. Today I took my car for service and mechanic told that I have to change brake pad and discs. The cost they quoted is 2000 euro. I told them to do it a week later. How much I can expect to change brake pad and disc? If I am changing which one is good to replace? I appreciate your input.

Thanks
Badri M

Shop around. My MINI dealer quoted me $650 per axle. Yes that's US dollars. Not a JCW but still that's too much.

A brake job is a very simple task, if you are a little bit mechanically inclined.

Brakes are very easy to do, just rent the caliper compression tool from your local auto store, get some on blaster while you are there. I did mine a side at a time due to having only 2 jack stands, if I had 4 would have been a different story. I bet you can probably find a YouTube video or 2 on how to do it, and they might tell you the tools you’ll need. I can send you a free invite to Newtis if you would like, might help you out as well.

Paid $247.05 shipped and one afternoon, I had a Xmas coupon, and that was for all new JCW drilled/slotted rotors, ceramic pads, hardware and new sensors. Then watched a few YouTube videos and had to buy a brake caliber compressor tool, so another $26. Was super easy once you do your first side.

$26 bucks, what tool? I’ve been renting for free, just cost of gas, plus you put down a 60 bucks deposit which you get back. But I’ve done brakes on 4 cars now in 3 years so having it would save time.
