Inner front tire wear

I went to check out a JCW this weekend. Car is low mileage and has only 12k miles. During the test drive I noticed a steering wobble. Owner said it probably needs an alignment. When we got back I discovered the front driver side wheel has abnormal wear to the point where the inner structure of the tire can be seen. Has anyone else had this issue on their JCW?

Points to a serious alignment issue that could be due to failure in a suspension component. With mileage being that low, I'd wager that something is out of whack in the front due the car having hit something. I'd get the car looked at by a competent mechanic before buying.

I've seen that wear on other cars due to a serious toe mis-alignment. As mentioned, if you are considering this vehicle, get an independent inspection to see if anything is bent or broken.

Yeah there isn't really any camber adjustment up front (minimal shifting of the strut top) so either something is bent or the toe is way out (or both). Could also be a failing tie rod or ball joint. Overall not a huge deal. Might be able to get a reasonable discount on the car if you point that stuff out to the seller/shop.
