Tire Rotation and Tire Wear question
Tire Rotation and Tire Wear question
FYI-this was also posted in the Tire section, but wanted to post here to see what you guys specifically thought.
I've got 17" runflats (Goodyear Eagle RSA 205/45 R17) & about 9500 miles on my car. My tires haven't been rotated yet, & I've got more tread wear (about a third, or 30% more wear) on the front, & obviously more tread left on the rear.
I plan on taking a Father's Day weekend trip to the Dragon next month & was wondering if I should rotate them before then (because of the tread wear)? I make approx 2-3 trips down to the Dragon each year & over the last 1000 miles or so - it seems like I'm hearing a lot more chirping from my front tires when going around curves?
Generally speaking, do I want more tread on the front, or rear?
Should I rotate them B4 my Father's Day trip to the Dragon - or just wait & let the dealership do it @ my 10,000 mile service?
Just say NO to crashing,
Carl

According to the dealer the tires should be rotated every 5000 miles. Also remember to check the air pressure in the tires once a week. I have been checking the pressure in my tires each week and I always have to added air to all my tires.
I have the same problem with the wearing of my runflats [16" Dunlop 5000 DSSTs]. The rears are better than the fronts, and I am also planning a trip to the Dragon when I go to MME later this month. That said, I was advised to check my torque and air pressures daily, but to also keep the tires with the best tread on the back, as the back likes to break loose when traction is limited. Some people ascribe to having more tread on the front, but I was told that the weight up front evens out the traction issue as long as the driver doesn't overdo his speed in the curves.

I believe the advice to put your best rubber on the rear is sound.
Better to have an understeering car that one whose back end breaks away in oversteer. That being said be careful in the rain. Worn tires like to hydroplane.
PuppetMaster, my advice would be to rotate your tires before you go. Also a good rule of thumb is to rotate every 5,000 miles. 10,000 is going to cause more uneven wear.
