Winter tire choices for the stock 15" rims....

What do you guys recommend?

The choices I can find for this size (175/65R15) are:
Dunlop M2 or M3 Winter Sports
Yokohama Ice Guard
Pirelli Winter 190 Snow Controls

Are all these decent tires for mainly ice and hard packed snow driving?? I will also be driving thru deep snow, but not very much. Thanks.

And should I possibly get some 185/60R15 winter tires because there are more choices, like:
Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50
Toyo Observe GO-2
BFG Winter Slalom

Thanks.

Consider 185/65-15 and 195/60-15 also:

Does anyone use a 185/65R15??

Comparing the stock size (608.5mm) to this size (621.5mm) is a 2.1% size change. Is this going to affect the ecu at all??

I can get some Nokian RSis at this size. I just don't want something I can't use....

Within ±3% of stock size is acceptable.

Larger wheel diameter is better for snow ... more ground clearance.

MINI2 users with 185/65-15 winter tires ...

1. Not one Michelin Artic in the bunch? Any special reason?

2. Everyone (in MINIAC's posting) is running 185....what's the diff to me 'tween 185 and 195? In the context of snow /dry conditions especially.

185 is 1/2 inch narrower, and will cut thru snow better. 195 is wider and will handle better in dry, but bear in mind its a snow tire, so soft compounds will keep yourt from driving too agressivly. These same coumpouds are what yeilds your best snow traction.

I very very very highly recommend michelin pilot alpins. Unfortunately it looks like they came out with v2 and I don't yet see them available in that size. They should be, I have the v1's in 15's on my other car. Spectacular snow traction and better dry/wet traction than i've seen in most all seasons!

I'd recommend Kumho KW17 195/60/15, they are H rated winter performance tire, and is alot cheaper than other name brand tires. I had them on a BMW 325 last year and it performed extremely well.
