I'm also running Ferrodo DS2500s in front with the Powerslot rotors with no grinding noise.

It sounds like 60 grit sandpaper on the rotors ALL THE TIME. It has never gone away or gotten notably better. I even kept the Ferodos on for a solid three weeks after the DE to really wear them in on the rotors. No change.

I was told these rotors would make some noise but I have literally had pedestrians on sidewalks turn to see what was Shhh, shhhh, grrrr, grrrr, shhhh-ing up behind them!

I can even feel the brakes through the steering wheel during heavy braking. (Not a warpage, just the grinding.) I have switched pads around and switched rotors back. The pads are fine (EBC and Ferodo) The problem is the rotors.

Right now these rotors are on the workbench...on their way to the trash can. Three questions:
1. Is this a rarity? Am I alone with this issue?
2. Is there a cure?
3. Is there a better, quieter, rotor that will run cool at the track?

Help!

I wish I had of seen this thread last year - I don't think it is a rarity - now!!.

Two weeks ago I desperately needed a new set of rear rotors before a hill climb. I went for the EBCs rotors (slotted only not cross drilled) because they were the only ones available on short notice.

Two competition MINIs here were running Ferodo 2500 pads with good reliability with AP Racing rotors. They had had no luck with the EBC pads, so I followed their recommendation.

Two weeks later (and three 50 second short-course hillclimbs and a couple of hot 2.2km 5 lap super sprints), I was surprisingly down to the metal on the front, with negligble wear on the rear. I too had all the same noises and pedal feel as Brad. Absolutely unbearable in the noise department.

Finding the right brake combination is a black art, especially when you are competing in different disciplines on the same set.

For my short course hill climbs they have to work hard from cold. With under 50 seconds per run and 2 down hill 1st gear hairpins from 60mph you don't get a second chance if you end up in the ARMCO.

The EBC slotted rotors with the Ferodo 2500 pads were bedded in for me by a professional track driver and mechanic. They stopped well from cold, but the rotors were basically acting as cheese graters.

Unless it was a case of the right box with the wrong pads in them, I wouldn't recommend the combination to anyone.

The front EBC rotors will be OK with a light skim, but due to another sprint day tommorow, I have had to quickly pick up a set of standard front rotors and another set of front Ferodo pads. So far feels good and the bias seems to be OK.

Anyway Ferodo are watching the outcome with much curiosity, with a view to paying if the problem shows up as dud pads the first time around.

Experimenting can pay off well sometimes, but it can also make you pay big time. This time I payed.
