I wanted to know the widest cooper owners have gone with their wheel and tire setups, who did it, and what works.

What I'm really looking for is to put 9" all the way around or if I can go bigger, the widest wheel and tire setup that I could do with wheel spacers, modified fenders, the works.

All and every piece of info will be greatly appreciated.

I have fit 225 width before but it would really depend on which tire you choose in specific. Also once I lowered the car with the H-sports the 225 rubs under minor cornering.

No disrespect to Alex at the tirerack, but he will tell you what most people will tell you which is the safe answer. A 7" or 7.5" rim, but I am sure you can fit much wider under there. Think about early vw rabbits, came with 165/65/13s, and people use 205s,and 215s all the time, that is a huge difference. I think a 9 inch wide rim is about as big as you can go without modification though. Just my ideas.

OK, now we're gettin' some where... But, I think wider is possible. Would i just have to modify the fenders to achieve this? Or is it more "involved"?

8" wide on the front and 9" wide on the back is possible. Mostly for show, not sure if you want to risk driving much other than some easy street driving.

d6-mcs put on 17x8" fronts 30mm offset 205/40/17 tires and 17x9" rears 25mm offset 215/40/17.

Note-if wider tires are used with the 9" wide rim you'd get rubbing or you can get a wider fender kit.

yea thats my mini, i have the 8 in the front and the 9 in the rear. dont put 9 all way round will not fit the front. my 8 on the 205 stick out barely but just perfect. and the 9 on the 215 stick about a little more the front but looks sick. i just put kw coil overs on it tonight and slammed the crap out of it. needless to say the rear tire found the metal fender so i had to raise the rear a little. but the front barely rubs and look sick. i should have some pics up here i a few days. lowered the car i want to say about 3in's all way round. later

I have used 225 with a high degree of sucess, taking simple dremeling work.

I have seen 235 and even 245 on fully prepped racecar.
Depends on the level of time and or $ your willing to put in.

The 235's guy had shoehorned and H22A motor in up front.

The 245 guy had an E46 M 3.2 mounted in the REAR.

I have the info on their powerplants to give a base for the investment these gents have made.

NAM is full of resources- that is the bottom line.

Every member can find what I find. The key is to do a good search.

I see this in my medical field all the time. In this day and age textbooks are out of date but the time they hit the publishers so the information on the internet is the most current and broad. It includes far more than any textbook. However it includes both good and bad references so you have to know what you are reading and cull out the bad or useless.

When searching for medical stuff we often get help from a medical librarian trained in using the right keywords to search medical databases.

If we apply this same principle to NAM searches we need to find the right keyword and usually you can find what you want. The other threads pulled up might also be related or interesting as well.

I have read a good portion of all the posts related to the technical aspects of the MINI so I do know what is out there posted in the past so my searches are pretty quick and I can narrow down the hits. Sometimes I know who the poster is and that will help as well. That should not stop anyone from doing their own search.

When it comes to wide wheels, d6-mcs is a good person to ask. If it has to do with wheels Alex@tirerack will give you the honest and safe answer. If you go beyond normal limits then share it with the rest of us so we can know that it is possible and enjoy in your success.
