Ok ok!! I'll do it right. 2 Axles coming right up!
I've already done Super Blue, Stoptech SS Brake lines, and Mintex Redbox pads--haven't done rotors yet.

I'm doing a track event in October, and doubt I'll have the rotors done before then, but I'm thinking about doing this mod.

Thanks!

This is by foar one of the best easy mods for our cars. It's a shame that all those that buy a Mini don't do this just for safetys sake....

I bought one with 4 attachments/sizes at Home Depot (after I installed them w/o).

Just bring one with you to the store....

I went Sears and bought a 2 plier set of reversable (does both inside and outside snap rings) for $19.95. Here's the link

Good Luck

bushing orientation

question about the orientation of the bronze bushing... I followed the picture at the turnermotorsports site, which puts the snap ring toward outside of car, which is opposite of tyrol's picture and install instructions...

It probably doesn't matter but any thoughts...

With the snap ring to the outside, if it were to break the bushing could not fall out due to the rotor location. This is a safety feature

I have to say that I don't notice an improvement in pedal feel since I've done this mod to all four corners. I consider myself pretty sensitive to such things. I did however, notice more even wear with the pads that I just removed, which were the first set run with the new bushings.

EDIT: Referring to the front pads.

then install with snap ring to outside!!!!!!!

Install as Turner's picture indicates, which is the opposite of Tyrol's instruction...

Thanks for the help...

It can be done without the pliers. Just takes a little more effort. I did the rears without the pliers. No problem.

Thanks! I just got back from Home Depot, and bought a pair of those Channel Lock Snap Ring Pliers. Will give it a go this weekend!

I might have to agree with this. Problem though with me is that so many other brake mods have been added to my car that maybe it's not that aparent .

even if you don't feel it, more even wear on the pads indicates more even force. That means one part of the pad isn't getting much hotter. So pad life and rotor life should be improved..... And the pads won't locally heat to where they turn to gas..... So fade should be reduced as well.

Winter, salty crud

Do people put back the rubber bushings for snow, winter use, to avoid the salt or just let it stay.... the rubber boots, however squishy, do protect the guide pins from the salt.....

I don't drive this MINI in the winter, it's too low, too stiff, etc. But I do a lot of track days and frequently change pads so when I'm in there I clean them up and re-lube them.

Link doesn't work for me either. Anyone know how to remove the OEM guide sleeve? It doesn't seem to come off easily. Will I have to destroy it to remove it? I just took a look at things a little while ago, and couldn't remove it, so I decided to try it again tomorrow after I know a little bit more.

Thanks!!

Richard

Guide sleeve? Do you mean the rubber bushing? I just took a somewhat large flat screwdriver and pushed the bushing through and it just kind of pops right out...Didn't damage them at all.......
