lighter wheels also make better and more comfortable contact on rougher roads, bumps, etc.

I would spend more $ for better wheels that are lighter and are not made for two different bolt patterns.

But if you really don't care about heavy wheels with 8 holes, go for it !

Costco may have a great warranty on these, but do ask before you spend the $.

Seems like people think they makes them look cheap or something ? I don't get it either, just helps you sell them on the used market later.

When you are on a budget you have to look at the value of your choices for wheels and tires.

In your case the Velox wheels are fine for the price. Be sure to know the weight of the wheel but the R90 MINI OEM wheel is about 25 lbs so that option isn't much better.

Less wheel and tire weight means your MINI doesn't have to work as hard to get the mass of the wheel/tire rolling and changing direction or to stop it. Hence, nearly everything about handling and performance improves with less weight.

That's why it's good to get light wheels, not so critical for the tires since the tire rubber and tread pattern along with the tire size are also big factors for handling and performance besides just weight.

Budget value wheels are usually cast alloy which is less costly to make, but also less strong compared to other methods of wheel making like forged alloy or pressure cast. In order to make a cast wheel stronger, usually the wheel design is a bit bulkier and so it weighs more.

To get a wheel spoke design that looks more minimal requires the wheel to be made stronger and that costs more.

A universal bolt pattern is useful for when you want to sell or if you want to move the wheels to another car. Since it's twice as many holes the wheel design needs to be more robust at the hub and that adds to the weight.

If you hate brake dust and don't clean your wheels often then be careful not to pick a complicated spoke design with lots of places that are hard to reach as previously mentioned. Smooth contours are much easier to live with or get a finish that doesn't show dirt/brake dust. Worse is chrome or polished alloy, next is white.

What were you thinking for tires?
