Wheel and Tire Package Shipping Advice?

I'm not too familiar with shipping a wheel and tire package. An internet search on FedEx and UPS yields pricey results. I visited a local FedEx store and they quoted me $200+ for a 1,000 mi transport (160 lbs total). Does this seem accurate? I'm having difficulty quoting potential buyers with accurate estimates...

And since this is the wheel and tire section, I'm going to shamelessly plug them here. No one said you have to click on it...

Shipping is based on weight and package dimensions, doesn't seem far off from normal charges. Best way to get a better price is ship from business address with fedx or ups account and ship to a business address - usually price is MUCH lower in that case.

Ship them via USPS Parcel Post.

It's the cheapest way I've found for shipping bulky items that don't need to be rushed.

I've only shipped a set of wheels & tires once. Took one to the local Box n Ship place & asked for an estimate to ship 4. The price that was given to me was pretty high so I asked can you do better than that. He punched some numbers into his register & said all 4 for $100. I was very pleased. Shop around you can get a decent deal.

I have received Tires and wheels from TireRack that were shipped UPS and only had cardboard covers on the front and back of the wheel. If it works for them then I think that is all you need.

I haven't tried this, but I have been told that it is very reasonable to ship bulky items like that via greyhound bus.
