are you lowered? i think that's the optimum size. i have those on a wheel with a +37 offset and I'm fine (not lowered though)

I'm running 215/50R16 with stock offset (48) and stock suspension without any problems. A 215/45R17 would be ~ 3/32" taller from the hub (radius). Hope that helps.

I am running that size tire on a 40 offset wheel without rubbing problems. Think it would work.

I’m not sure what the offset is on the S Lites are, but I’m running auto-x with 215/45-17’s now and have no problem.

>>will 215/45-17 rub on a wheel with a offset of 42mm??
>>

koolmini,

Depends on several factors.
37 mm to 50mm offset is OK for stock suspension MINI - no rubbing issues.

42mm offset is OK for H-sport lowering springs for some owners but if you use Yokohama ES100 in that size you may get some rubbing in the rear due to the square blocky shoulders of the tire- I have this combination and it does rub a little- over bumps with full passenger load or two people in the back seat. During street use, track or autocross with one or two people in the car it does not rub. If I want to stay with the ES100 I'd go for the 215/40-17 which should not rub with my H-sports.

So consider your final situation (how low do you want to go and with what) and work backwards. The tires you pick do make a difference, the size you use might need to be 40 series if you use ES100s, Offset of 42 is workable.

For more info talk to Randy Webb of Webbmotorsport or Alex from the tirerack.

I checked out your gallary... very nice setup.

Even with 37, your car doesn't look raised.

i guess i should of posted more info
funny you should metion Yokohama's
i'm about to order my second set of Yoko's from the tire rack (AVS ES-100's)
and i want to go to 215's instead of 205's (215/45-17)
i have stock springs & after market swaybar (might lower her in the future)
i'm really aggressive in the turns (just ask Killboy.com at the Dragon)
and my back seat is a virgin (no backseat riders...thinking about pulling it out)
i just want to make sure that i won't be cutting a grove in my new tires
especially if i'm out of town with no spare & my non runflats

I had rubbing - rear rims only - w/ that exact setup. It happened rarely and only under somewhat extreme circumstances, but with only me in the car (no passengers and no extra weight in the back). It didn't take much to eliminate....I installed adjustable control arms....1.6 degrees neg camber did the trick....they haven't rubbed since. [17x7.5 (42 offset) SSR-Cs + 215/45-17 B-Stone Potenza S-03s]

koolmini,

In your case with the stock springs I would suggest Yokohama ES100 in 215/40-17 to be free of rubbing just to be sure. Make sure you have some nice negative camber in the rear since you corner hard. Add rear adjustable control arms to help with the ability to adjust the rear camber if you like.

thanks for the advise
the only problem with the 40's this the roads in NY suck (by the time they fix the roads winter is apond us again) & the 40's will give me less side wall
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, what to do?
i'll talk to the guys at the Tirerack when i order next week
but i would really like to go from 205's to 215's
also the way i drive they probably won't rub for long

Kool,

Yucca and I both are using the ES100's 215/45-17's with stock suspension and have no rubbing problems at all. We're doing auto-x so we get a chance to push a little harder than street driving.

I say go for it.

I have 215/45-17 Yoko ES 100's on 42 Offset Flik Wasps and I DO get rear rub when I hit a large bump. Not severe but I'm a bit peeved. The car is not lowered.

are the rear tires are rubbing?
Alex at the tirerack say's they might rub (50/50 chance)
but you can trim down the piece on the kar that the tires are rubbing on

Hey David – I see some who say they get rub and others say no rub at all. Guess you’ll just have to get those puppies mounted and let us know if they do.

I'm thinking to get Flik Wasps, but with 205/45/17. Do you think it will leave some from tires rubbing?

MyPocketRocket....just curious....what year is your kar?
btw: from what i understand, you can trim down the thingy's on the kar so they don't hit your tires

Kool,
My MCS (2002) is not lowered and does not rub.... 215/45-17.
Mine are Toyo Proxes T1S's and the rims tenzo's have a +40 offset.

I think (just conjecture) that due to the shape of the Yoko ES 100's...as they are a bit "square" (for lack of better word)... and maybe that's why they rub ????
Look at the pic attached.... and take note...of the shape of your Yoko tires vs. these Toyo's

You may have hit on the key. I've got a 2002 and Andrew's is a early 2003.
