balancing wheel with rust

I tend not to pay too much attention to the care of my winter rims and was wondering as the rust creeps along if there are balancing issues to consider ?

Thanks

Generally no.

You can clean the wheels really well and let them dry. Then use a rust remover before storing.

Are your wheels alloy or steel? Alloy you can just polish a little to get off the rust from the wheel hub.

R84 aka Monza wheels with fair bit of curb rash and rust about 2 inch by 1/2 inch.

I don't believe it affects the bead but I probably should remove tire and inspect while treating the rust.

It's really more of a safety issue than cosmetic so if the rim is healthy I can proceed to treat the rust.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced wheel balance issues caused by significant rust in one location ?

I doubt rust is a concern balance wise .... the amount of metal you removed in creating this rash might be. Given that wheel weights added for balance can be a gram or 2, it's possible.

If in doubt, get the wheel balanced - only a few dollars. Better, get the wheel repaired and THEN balanced. You can get just one wheel done ... don't have to do all 4 at a time.....
