There is no more wheel gap with 16 inch wheels. The tire diameter (height) has to remain the same as 17 inch to maintain the stock mph. Therefore the "gap" from the top of the tire to the wheel well molding remains constant. If you go lower profile then you increase gap, alter mph, increase rpm, wear tires more due more revolutions per mile etc.

The car does seem a little "jacked up" in the back. Is there a reasonably priced way to adjust that?
17s are the best choice and here is why - some is opinion.
1. tires are relatively common and cheap to find in a 205/40, 205/45, 225/45, R17, etc.
2. 17 i think is the best looking size on the r56.. 18s are too big and 16s are too small to me.
3. I am sorry you arent lowering you car because they come stock with some excessive wheel gap.. i can fist it.
