merry christmas to me! and a quick question...
I'm a very happy man right now, got surprised with a full set of Motegi MR125s
So i tossed one on the cooper to see what it looked like - keep in mind that i'll be mounting a 235/40 r17 on it for autocross. Do ya'll think i'll need a spacer? Looks a bit tight on the strut back there, about 1/2" or a touch less.

Nice wheels.
That is a larger tire size than what I have seen on Minis. What is the wheel rim width and offset (should be stamped on the inside of the wheel somewhere)? I have seen 225s fit, but on a lowered car they rubbed on the wheel wells (40 mm offset wheels). So this may be more of a question of fitting between the strut/springs and the wheel well.
Do a search, I know this subject has come up before. And look in the SCCA Solo 2 and ProSolo Forum (you might want to post this question there). For autocross the allowed tire size and changes to the offset will depend on the class you expect to be in. You might want to check the governing body (SCCA?) rules before you invest too much.
At any rate - Nice Wheels and Merry Christmas!

Thought i would post an update - a local tire shop hooked me up with a used 235/45 17 so i could do some test fits and see what everything looked like. I'm happy to report they clear the stock struts with about a 1/4" to spare and little to no rubbing from what i can tell rolling around - this was a loaner tire and I only had one so i couldn't drive it...
see pictures below, but i have no doubt that a 235/40 will fit with coil overs and gives a very nice stance with the rims and wheels pushed way out to almost exactly flush with the fenders.

look at that stance! (the jack is just stuck under there, the weight is all on the wheel)

a tight fit with the 235/45 - that is a flat head screwdriver that just barely fits between the tire and the wheel well liner - a 235/40 will help a ton here.

can't wait to get the full set mounted up with some real rubber.
