Suggestions for new wheels?
Hi all
I've got a 2005 MCC manual trans. Standard 15" wheels.

I've really hated the snow performance of the tires that fit this wheel (there's like 2 tires that fit and they're both awful).
I've been contemplating getting a new set of wheels that will fit more/better tires for all season driving.
I'm more concerned about price than looks, but I don't want steel/hubcaps. I also don't care about larger wheels -- 15 or 16" are fine.
Are there any good wheels that can take great all-around tires that i can get online for around ~100 each?
Also, on my model, there's no pressure sensors, right? It's all done through the speed sensors on the wheels?
thanks!

Are you looking for tires for this winter? If so then contact Alex@tirerack.com and let him know your requirements and he will give you your options-
Check out this-

Basically you can get dedicated winter wheels and snowtires if you have enough snow in your area that requires better tires. These are cheap enough in 15" but you will need somewhere to store them in the spring. And you need to change them out once a year- pay or do it yourself.
No fuss with TPMS for your year.
Or you can put on good all season tires for your stock wheels but they will not be the stock 175/65-15 size.
Some examples-
For snow tire using your stock rim-

Continental Extreme Winter Contact (studless Ice and Snow tire)
195/60-15 $83 each Fits rims 5 to 7" wide
Tire test results-

For some snow and more comfort for street use and commuting-

Goodyear Assurance Confortred Touring (Grand Touring all season)
185/65-15 $94 each fits rims 5 -6.5" wide
740 treadwear
Tire test results-
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=138
For light snow and better handling and performance for street use in non winter but reduced treadwear rating at a reasonable cost-

Bridgestone Potenza RE960 (Ultra High Performance All Season tire)
195/60-15 $74 each fits rims 5.5-7" wide
400 treadwear
Tire test results-
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=124
You can also consider better Ultra High Perf All Season tires but the sizes start from 16". 16x6 rim would be fine. Less wide is better in the snow.
See

Continental ExtremeContact DWS (UHP All season tire)
195/50-16 $105 each fits rims 5.5-7" wide, note- is on backorder.
540 Treadwear
205/50-16 is alternate size $107 and is in stock now.

Have fun shopping.

Thanks for the really extensive info!
I'm in the greater NY area, so i shouldn't have a problem making do with all season tires. The ones I have now on my stock rims are pretty awful.
This is what i use now:

I'll email Alex and ask what he thinks, but i'm keen on your suggestion given my circumstances.
thanks!

If you want a good UHPAS tire for your current wheels, I would do these:
