Just did my Brakes!! and i m loving it...
just did a front brake job disks and pads, Carbotech pads are now the only thing I will put on my car (until I do a BBK) they stop like crazy. I feel my face being ripped off when I mash on the brake peddle. I got the XP8 compound after talking with the lovely people at Carbotech they are great!!!!!!

They are great brakes, but the xp8s are just a little too dusty and noisy for me for street use. I use their 1521 for the street and xp12s for the track.
How long do those last? My last car was a Saturn Sky and I got over 50K out of my brake pads. I know the stock Mini ones seem to last about 30K give or take. I'm hoping to find some that last a little longer so once I use my free brake job, for the next one I can put some pads on there that last a bit longer.
I put X-10 front and X-8 Rear. WOW do they stop you. They are a bit noisy for the street and slow speeds they squeek. So does my Maserati. I need to add the stock shims and I will run them for the summer. Might go back to my stock for the winter.

Island, do not mean to nit pick but I think the Carbos you have are XP10 and XP8. I would not run those for the street for the longer term. They do need some heat to work well.
I order direct from carbotech and spoke with a guy named Mike Jr. great service!!!!! answered a ton and a half of question
. after talking and telling them what i have and what I do they recommend the best brakes for your purposes. thats why I run XP8 as DD and I m getting the XP12 for track (best of all if I'm felling lazy I don't have to change pads at all
) I m headed to the track now hope everyone had a nice ester!!

Did you install this setup yet? I'm interested to hear your experience, as i've used the Redstuff pads before on a larger car and they worked great. I'd like to see how well they heat up and stop a MINI during daily driving.
They are being installed along with NM SSK and catback on May 9 and 10. I'll report in this thread after a bit of use.
ok thanks I was told that if you go with performance pads then you need matching rotors...
im about to do my brakes and wanted some pads with little or no brake dust and quite! are the street carbotechs the best option or would something from autozone for half the price still do the job? no track for me just a DD and hate cleaning the rims ALL THE TIME! and does anyone have a link to a good DIY for the 2007 R56? i found a really good one for the 2004's or at least the specific sizes for the tools, wrenches, allens, sockets?

Using Carbotech Bobcats now w/ an R56 S coupe...
albeit w/ JCW brake calipers. But dust and noise you ask about should still be similar. Net, pre brakes change (when it was OEM stock), it was a dust storm. Even a single drive would leave first obvious signs of dust on wheel after a wash. W/in days it was a black mess (on silver wheels). Now even after a week w/ the Carbotechs it has little more dust than it used to get after one drive. Thus, now the rears with their relatively puny brakes that are still OEM stock are generating far more dust, yet most braking of course is happening up front.
Noise, OEM's were quiet; no real noise. The Bobcats have just a bit. Faint sound like I would expect from a pad w some metal in it. Remember too these are their most street oriented pads, and presumably the quietest. No squealing or anything remotely like that, just a soft functional noise. Only hear it coming to a full stop with radio all the way off.
I used the pads among other things because they are among the only fitments around for the JCW calipers. For standard R56/S (not sure if you have an S) calipers there are many more pad choices already, and lower cost ones. I plan to use EBC Reds for example in the back. Mintex red box are a cheaper choice yet (havent confirmed for sure you can get these for the S), and maybe even lower dust than the EBC reds. I like the feels of the EBC's a bit more--more progressive rather than with strong bite that leaves a bit less control when you stab the pedal suddenly. Both have decent pad lives from experience relative to OEM (usually Jurids or Ate's, recently TRW) on other cars. EBC has some reports of being a bit hard on rotors but I haven't run them long enough yet (in second 30K cycle on a high HP Audi w/ really big OEM brake fitment--15.3" rotors...) to reach a conclusion there. I can also confirm the Carbotechs have that progressive feel as others say and you hear marketed.

Best of luck. I think you'll like them, especially if you drive the car hard. They have very low dusting and are quiet for a relatively aggressive pad. Can't wait to hear how they hold up with a bit of use.
By reading these posts I think I will have to give myself a good kick in the backside. I just bought the EBC green pads with rotors and SS lines, and based on everyone's comments, it looks like I should have gone with the red pads.
Anyone have feedback about the differences?
