Do I need to reset TPM after tire rotation?
Which is a potential rip-off I think. On my previous JCW, they were mounting my new Azenis with only 10K on the OEM wheels/tires. They told me I "had" to pay the rebuild fee. I then watched through the window as the techs pulled off my old tires and mounted the new ones, never touching the sensors. I spoke up about it and the red-faced sales guy promptly took off the $10 per wheel charge, mumbling that they "usually" have to do it.
Well they do have their add-ons ranging from Fed taxes to road hazard. A week later from buying the new tires in my sig - when we caught a nail in the shoulder - at least the road hazard paid off with a new tire.
It could be just one damaged sensor
You need to find a tire shop that can plug a device into your PCM and the device will say exactly which sensor needs to be repaced. Any good tire shop should have one.
You may only have one bad sensor.

So...I didn't want to spend the $80 - $100 most places were going to charge to put my snowtires on my 2009 Mini Cooper S. I found a local joint that would do it for $10/tire...kinda shady, but I was all about the savings...no receipt, nothin'.
They jacked up ALL 4 sensors in the process of getting old tires off and/or snow tires on...and the computer read, "inactive" regardless of how many attempts I took on the reset process.
Dealer says it's non warranty since they are damaged and parts and labor for replacement will run about $750. Dealer said they have no way of turning off the idiot light that won't turn off because the sensors are not working right. So I have to deal with glowing yellow light until I am willing to drop the $.
I'M WONDERING IF ANYONE OUT THERE KNOWS OF ANY AFTER MARKET METHODS FOR TURNING OFF THIS WARNING LIGHT, SO I CAN JUST CHECK IT MANUALLY LIKE I WOULD ANY OTHER CAR.
OR...ALTERNATIVELY....ANYONE KNOW OF ANY MORE AFFORDABLE OPTIONS TO REPLACE THE MONITORS (I KNOW I KNOW...I GOT BIT IN THE BUTT TRYING TO SAVE MONEY THE FIRST TIME, I PROLLY SHOULD NOT TRY TO DO IT AGAIN, BUT STILL....)
ANYONE?

I have been tickled to death with recent acquision of a 2003 "S" which unfortunately came to me with only one key...and NO manual. I got the tire light almost immediately, which triggered a more through inspection of the tires than I had made.
All had looked about midway thru lifetime, UNTIL I found the left rear inside was worn completely through all the rubber and completely through two metal plies. I was 60 miles from home or a tire supplier, but managed to creep home upright.
Installed two new, then two more. Didn't and don't know how to reset. I would take the excellent above advice to simply follow the easy directions in my manual if I had one. I DO have one coming but in the interim, could one of you perhaps POST those simple directions? I promise not to ask dumb questions ,which have ben asked 50 times, in the future.
Thanx Minimiser

Yeah, there as been talk amongst the owners of the different MINI model years and the manual seems to change all the time with tire rotations. I personally bought my tires through discount tire direct and got free tire rotations and balancing for the life of the tires. Even if you didn't do the tire rotations you should get the tire balancing done on a regular basis.
Whoops! I meant directions on how to reset light
TIA
I agree on the balance advantage, and since I began buying a SET rather than juggling one here and a pair there, I neither rotate nor see any drawback in letting them live in their original home.

Just a quick thought.

Oh I forgot, you wore out the tire because you need an alignment.
Rotating tires makes them last longer. The front wheels pull the car, and steer the car, the rears are pretty much along for the ride. You might as well make them do thier fair share. (think of it as Obama care for tires. It's good for you and them ...lol) But hey, it's your money you are throwing away.. I really don't care.

Minimiser:
From the '03 manual:
Initializing the system
Only initialize the system if the inflation
pressure has been corrected or changed,
e.g. after a tire change.
1. Ignition key in position 2
2. Press the button long enough for the
yellow indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster to light up for a few seconds
3. Start the engine.
After a few minutes driving time, the Flat
Tire Monitor sets the current inflation pressure
in the tires as the target values to be
monitored.

Ouch! Gimme a chance...I just bought the beast (and today put in the second tank of gas)
Thanx for the reset info. I had difficulty entering the recommended area with manual as I had "No Account Number"??
Whilst I await the manual, let me show additional ignorance: What IS that little gizmo 8 inches to the left of the hazard indicator...looks like the symbol for cruise...presses in with no noticeable effect.
?

This thread is somewhat confusing because it has info on both the R53 & R56 TPMS, both are different from one another.
Owners manual download....
