Rear brake rattle/clanking noise
I have an 02 MC with Hawk HP Plus brake pads on stock rotors. They will often rattle/clank at speeds up to about 40 mph and the sound goes away when the brakes are applied. Warped rotors??? Do I need to replace the pads?? The brakes are working fine, but the noise is quite annoying.

Make sure the clip on the rear inboard pads are secure on the caliper piston.

Check that the pad is clipped into the caliper piston as Davester has suggested.
Here is what I found on mine.
I chased the rattle in mine for over a year. Out of desperation I went to the dealer & talked with a very good tech. He told me he has seen aftermarket pads with a loose fit make a rattle. His advice was that I drive over the bumpy road that caused my brakes to rattle & drag the brake lightly while doing so. Yep the rattle went away. I pulled the brakes, & the inner pad was clipped in as it should be. What I did find was the pad itself was moving in the caliper.
When you pull your pads look closely & you will see shiny parts of the pad backing plate where it is banging on the caliper. The caliper will have matching shiny points.
My pads worked fine except for that blasted annoying rattle. They were Hawk ceramics. I replaced them with Akebono ceramic pads. All is quiet & I'm happy.
